does baking jigheads that have been powder coated make a big difference in durability?

The answer is yes, especially if you occasionaly drag your jig head across
submerged rocks. I've been baking my jig heads for several years and notice they don't chip near as easily.

Another option is to clear coat the heads. It makes them tougher than diamonds!

I've tried every paint available ... coupled with a number of clear overcoats ... and nothing seems to come close to the durability of the Pro-Tec Powder Paint ... I do all my spinner bodies with it as well and have found the same to be true!

The great Folks at www.silentapproach.com use this same process, and their jigs heads are tuff and durable, not to mention the best looking jigs I've seen yet, after my last adventure with mutiple hook ups I'm hooked too.....Os

thanks for the info guys, i followed the directions on the jar of my pro-tec powder paint (350 degrees for 15 mins.) well when i took my jig out of the oven and noticed that the paint had started to melt. i then tried baking a jig at 350 degrees for 10 mins. this seems to work the best. do you guys alter your baking or temp.?
p.s. i slammed the jig onto a concrete floor to see what would happen, it actually put a dent in the jig without chipping the paint!

I stick the jig hooks into a piece of wood and then I bake at 350 for approx. ten minutes. I've had the same problem when leaving them in for longer. The result is a jig head that is like you guys said...tough!

I'm in agreement with Osprey. I was very impressed with the jigs I received from Silent Approach. My custom order included unique jig head colors like pearl/purple and glow/pink -- really great looking and with that baked-on hardness. Did I mention the crystal flash and flashabou tied in on their signature marabou jig?
