Tried fishing the Nooch for the first time on a weekend. Not a bad day, lots of boats most of them occupied by courteous fishermen. Here comes the moron in the green sled, above white bridge, he has a tiler mounted motor. We are in a driftboat fishing a great slot of water and working our way to the tailout. I position the boat so this sled can have plenty of water to go behind us, 5ft deep or more. Your right he plows through the slot in front of us and shakes his head like he did not have water on the other side. If someone is reading this and knows who this guy is, tell him to stay home next time. If he does this to someone else they may not be so forgiving. It guys like this as#ho%# that give other sled owner a bad rap.

I know how you feel. The other day I had one come down river at me the same time one was running up. Not a good feeling at all......

My guess is he learned how to drive on the Cowlitz. Lots of those guys, with way too few exceptions either he need the wide side or just dosen't give a rip. There aren't enough rivers where drift boaters and bank fishermen don't have to put up with jet boats.

Throwing a rock is better than throwing some lead don't you think?

Well Fishaday, maybe a rock thrown at a jet sled that just hauled butt through the hole you and 7 other people were fishing would wake up the driver. So maybe the next time he came by he could just drift through the hole. I don't want to harm anyone, just teach them some fishing manners.

Teaching them manners? If I walk through a clear cut you are hunting are you going to sling lead? ------------------ "Just Say No To Sovereign Nations!"

RiversWild,
There's a big difference between what I am talking about, and your clearcut example. If I am hunting a clearcut, and you walk through the middle of it, without seeing me, that's understandable. But a jet sled driver who can see that we are fishing a hole, but decides to tear through it anyways. There is a huge difference. In my last post I even said I wouldn't want to hurt anyone.

Here's a question for ya elkman. What are you gonna do if the sledder has a bigger chip on his shoulder than you do? Are you willing to get your head stuffed up you a** because he went through your favorite drift to fast, being as it is probally a secret hole that only you and the other SEVEN guys know about. Just doesn't make sense to make it an issue. I agree the guy is totally wrong and ya it's frustrating , but throwing rocks sure as hell ain't gonna help.

The legendary one handed gesture should be completely adequate. If the jet boat guy takes umbrage then you will have to deal with it. The last man who frightened me was a Viet Cong.
On the Lewis, some years ago, a jet boat blasted over a fish my partner was fighting. Knocked the fish off, of course. We never saw it again. Anyhow, I employed this tried and true means of communication and the guy turned around and came back. What followed was a long loud conversation that slowly turned into a long meaningful discussion which did not include rolling around on the nearby gravel bar or bleeding. My gesture was rude, certainly, but not nearly so rude as his action and he finally saw the error of his ways. I still see this man on the Lewis and the Cowlitz from time to time and I notice that he is always a carefull, polite jet boat driver.
Finally, throwing rocks, busting caps, and all other such idiocy ain't the answer fellas. Communication is the ONLY alternative. I'm fifty-seven years old and I've got the scars to prove it.
