Guys, has anyone used the Quantum Energy spinning reels? They look mighty nice, and Cabela's has a killer deal (59.95 on sale, reg. price 169.95) in their mid-winter sale flyer. Thinking about ordering one, just looking for a field test report.

I'm running a pair of the white four-bearing models right now, and so far, so good. Got them to replace the Shimanos I had which I did not like as the plastic piece around the line guide had a tendancy to grab the line and then allow it burn into the plastic when retrieved. I know more by the end of the winter

Thanks Bob. The ones on sale are the 7 bearing ones...they look sweet. I hope they still have one left!

Bob, I had the same problem with my Shimano Symetre's. I found that if I sanded the grooves out then coated the area with a hard clear nail enamel I stole from my wife it seems to solve the problem.

I have had two of those quantum energy spinning reels and I don't like them. I don't like that knob (balance?) on the handle, I grab it when I am trying to grab the handle while not looking at it. I had the handle fall apart where it was pressed together. Also the drag SUCKS, that is a big no-no with me, it's not that hard to make a smooth drag. I think the reel is designed more for bass fishing where you don't use the drag. Earlier this year I bought an ABU Garcia spinning reel for less than 40 bucks that is twice the reel. You don't always get what you pay for.

Thanks for the input guys. I waited too long and they were sold out. I needed another baitcaster more, anyway, so I ordered an ABU Garcia Black Max from one of the online tackle stores. Looks like a sweet steelhead reel. I wanted one of the Eons, but got tired of waiting "eons" for one to be available.

Hey Greg I am still waiting for my Eon,
Keep calling and they keep saying not yet.
But will let you know how this reel is.
Also sorry to say I really don't care for Quantum just because the relationship with Zebco, it reminds me too much of the snoopy reel/rod combo I had when I was little. I am sure that they do make fine reels but I will stick with Shimano and Abu's.

I hear ya, Fly. I've been trying to find/get one for months now. Should be against the law to advertise something that you don't have available for sale, huh? I think that from the looks of it, I'll be satisfied with the Black Max, without the wait. Maybe those Eons will be ready by summer run .
