Has the decision allready been made? I don't know. But it would help to let them know your opinion. This is your chance.

Thinker and all,
This was posted on the ifish board by a member who goes by "ifish special guest", I believe he or she works for ODFW in some capacity.
"All signs are pointing to the Feds agreement to the 15% impact on Upriver and Snake River spring chinook. That means the non-treaty sports and commercials will get the 2% the states wanted. Expect to fish up until the first or second week in March catch and kill and then 3-4 days a week marked fish only most likely through April unless the Willamette ESA impacts are reached. Sharpen them hooks and secure your bait looks like around 5-6k to be caught!"

So to answer your question it does look like we will get more than originaly thought. Hope that this is true.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Interesting, last rumor was 13% but "ifish special guest" usually knows the truth.

For me this would be bitter/sweet.

While it is great to have a season, they essentially went from catching 9% of a ESA stock to 15% of and ESA stock. I fail to find good fisheries management in that. Obviously the non-tribal harvesters can have some sort of season on 2% impact. Why do the tribes need a 13% impact to have one as well. I am not anti-tribal, just an honest question.

At last weekends fish an wildlife commission meeting, the North of Falcon pollicy was adopted. The language in the document does not specifically allocate a percentage of the Columbia River Chinook to commercials or recreationals dispite a push from the commercial gillnetters to get 50% in writing. That probably what this meeting will be about. There may also be some discussion about the use of tangle nets. It would be interesting to see if the commercials are pro or con on this.
