Jim-

It would also be interesting to see the amount of dollars spent on licensing by sportsfishers in Washington. Do you know where one could find this info?

Is there similar information available for the non-tribal commercial for Washington? I bet that would tell an interesting story.

Hey guys!

Ho...the source is the American Sportfishing Association

Dan...the washington figures are the first ones...each category has two sets of numbers, the second is US totals

According to a different study that I have.

Non treaty commercial fishing contributes 531 million to the economy. You take the numbers from there...oh. that study was done in 1999 by WDFW

Just to play the Devil's advocate I wonder what the cost of comercial production would be if you included all the transportation and maintanece facilities cold storages etc. Most of the stuies I have seen supplied by sportfish advocates usually go no further than ex vessel pricing (amount paid to the fisherman). This would be akin to adding up only the rod and reel and one set of terminal tackle to the sport angler for that one fish he or she caught. As opposed to sleds driftboats 4 wheel wonders depth finders on and on.
All of these are discretionary purchases and if there were no fishing at all the money would show up in the economy somewhere else. However if you have a bussiness that competes for these discretionary funds you should ,I guess, come up with lots of numbers to support your bussiness or lifestyle.

Hey Native,
All numbers presented (both sides) represent total economic impact which includes the person who pumps the gas..runs the cold storage...etc...

That was the purpose of both studies...to come to grips with the total economic impact.

Thanks,

Jim
