When is the next day the Indians are going to net the river? Do they only get one day a week? Trying to plan a trip down there and want to work around that.Do they only net in Drano lake? Thanks!

Sockeye, they only net Drano once a week. It's from around 6pm Tue. night until 6 am or noon on Wednesdays. And Drano is closed to sportfishing on Wednesdays. As far as I know the Indians net the main Columbia above Bonneville 7 days a week - ostensibly until they get their 13% ESA impact. That's 13 times as much as the sportfisher's 1% ESA impact. The prob with that is reportedly they have a difficult time stopping when they reach their quotas, and the Tribal fish police kinda look the other way. I don't have first hand konwledge of that but have heard credible cries about it enough that I think it would be naive to discount them.

if they pull the nets before the run is over i will be surprized, i am surprized they let them go 7 days a week, thats unreal, there should be at least 2 days a week with no nets to allow some fish to get up river.

Believe it, Dogsalmon. This fishery and the way the state is allowing the tribes/commercial boys to net it is yet another example of the beuracracy that drives our fisheries department. Sure, it's the best run we've had in years, but if the state doesn't do something about it we won't have very many more springer returns like this one. Here we are, getting the first decent springer return we've had in years and you'd think to youself "Hey, maybe it's not too late. Maybe the good old days of salmon fishing aren't gone after all." Well, fish for them while you can, because if this is the way we are going to manage our fish it's just a matter of time before we're right back to wondering if the spring chinook are going to become extinct. Sorry to sound so negative but it's hard to just sit back and watch this when just a few years back there weren't even enough springers returning up the Columbia to even warrent have a season.
