Was up the Kalama today dropping some stuff off at the property and had a buddy with me who had never been up the Kalama so we went looking around. Property is up where the county road and wheyerhauser road come back together on the upper end. Saw a new fish trap up there (we know this from stopping in at the upper hatchery and asking what the funny looking thng in the river was) It is for trapping smolts to see how the natives are reproducing. Hatchery guy said not very good. Did say this year is starting out to be a good year for summers and that the winter run was decent. They have been recycling quite a few fish. while we were there, didnt see any summers just a bunch of dark winters. Did say they did last year or this yearthey are going to let 450 pairs of springers go on upriver and spawn to see if they can get a bit of stock going that way even though they are all hatchery fish. No hatchery steelhead get above the upper hatchery though. Wish they still did, really miss the days of summer fishing up there and in the Gobar. Hopefully the natives can get themselves going again. Water was coming up this morning and getting pretty off color also, so anyone heading that way might want to check with one Kalama bait and tackle or pritchards for conditions. OK I am done rambling. Have a good eve.
