Floatilla II

June 2nd is the day. The South Santiam is the river. Summer Steelhead and Spring Chinook are the target. Fun is the object.

Thanks for the reminder WR. I can hear Oly knees shakin all the way down here; just like that quake. Fortunately we are getting some rain showers and at least a little more snow pack; and that bodes well for the June 2nd S. Santiam FLOATILLA II. There has been an early date record of 9,000 summer steelhead over Willamette Falls already and the peak isn't until late May/early June. Same for a lot of early springers going over - 61,000 due, peaking also in about late May. With the Willamette slower than normal this spring due to the low water and algae content and guys fishing for a few weeks on the Columbia fish instead, there will be less caught on the mainstem and more available for the colder valley tributaries; although I think there's been just enough rain to get a little better bite going at O.C. The Floatilla, open to all ifish and Piscatorial members, will float over one heck of a lot of springers and summers with good water conditions now more likely to occur. WR is going to post on both BB's about the when and where for meeting at the launches, and where to meet for a post fishing BBQ on a riverside park. Thanks Paul. And revenge is saweeet! Probably easy too - there were only 2 fish caught by all those Washington heavy hitters on the great Satsop River . Yes we know Os, every dog has their day and you had yours . -- Steve

Woof Woof, :)the Heavy Hitters from Oly town did manage to hook 2-keepers,along with the nice Nate released by the "Steelie King"

Even with these shaky knees I like our chances :p
this will be a real test considering most of us have never seen this River,let alone fished it
hooking and landing fish on a home river is no real trick ...but to do the same on a river you've never seen before....that takes skill,and a few new protype jigs

so I'm sure a bunch of you are planning pre floats it won't make much of a difference... :p

PS to Saukit2em - your float will only go down for two reasons. The bottom or a fish. SET THE HOOK when the bobber goes down next time!

Hey Dan, I can't use the out of state excuse because 'Fly and I smacked four of 'em in half a day at mid-week on the Satsop before Floatilla I. So I will just have to blame it on the Redneck. Fly and I spent most of the day either teaching him to row for the first time or moaning over our mega-headaches oh ya, and lost plug fish. Plus the water was so cold for the guys going over the good water in the lower run early that when it warmed a couple degrees by the time you guys got there from the upper run they were ready to bite then. How else could you explain beginners like you and Os getting those fish?!?

Mid week floats are great but you shouldn't use up all you're "luck" before you need it.Catching fish when no one is around.....oooooo thats tuff :p

So I see you have been working hard on your strut in your pink fu fu outfit there Os - in case you luck into a fish and let it fly at the Floatilla II. You've got it back down again as well as when you did that out on that Oly 4th Street dance floor back in Feb. Don't lay an egg while you are doing that! ... Here is the video that Timberman took of you back then and it looks just the same as you doing it now - cool! ...

Speaking of Emu's, RT, did you happen to loose one? This Emu has been running around my house for about 2 weeks now. If it is yours, Please come and get it.
As for the Floatilla, Hows 5:00 AM sound for a meeting time? There is a Sharis restuarnt in Lebanon that you cant miss. We could all meet there then jam on up to the put in. Sound good to you guys? Or do want to get an earlier or later start?

5 am at Sharis in Lebanon sounds good to me Paul(WR). So does a Belgion waffle! Let's see what others say, and we'll come up with a consensus - on the time, not the waffles. Speaking of waffles, can you find out about some bargain motels, where boats would be safe around town, for Washington guys coming down? Thanks.
