Since I still find myself unemployed from yet another dot-com downsizing my financial resources are tight, but that has not changed my need to get out and wet a line once in awhile.

I used to fish Hagg lake but it's so low this year that I'm considering other options. What else is out there that would be of interest? Ultimately I'd like something where I don't feel like I'm fishing the trout pond at the sportsman's show.

What have ya got for me?

fobb, it has always been a bit disappointing to me that quality trout flyfishing opps are few in any 1 hour direction of P-town. The best places are east of the Cascades - that I know of anyway. If you can add just a few more miles to the hundred you can park and hike or bike up the lower Deschutes River to fish for both good numbers of larger rainbows and springers. (Summer steelhead to follow in a couple months). That definitely not like fishing in a trout farm, and I don't think it will be too crowded yet. We need some more suggestions closer to town guys.

Here's some info that meets your 100 mile requirement (link to The Flyfishing Shop in Welches): http://www.flyfishusa.com/about-our-waters/our-waters-home/our-waters.html
Check out the links to fishing reports, Deshcutes, and Oregon Flyfishing Lakes.

good luck.....MikeT

I've fished two lakes outside of my proverbial backyard in my lifetime. Once was about 12 years ago at Howard Prairie down south. Amazing, as none of the fish were under 16 inches. And what gets me are the people who are USED to this. Heck, I get excited when I get anything over 11".

The other lake has been fished twice by myself: Wallowa lake in the Blue Mountains. I've caught a couple over 13" over there, but mostly again in the 10-11" range. Beautiful country though.

May have to give Roslyn a try next week. Wife gets done with classes tomorrow and I've got dibs on at least one day next week.
