Motor mooching is a great way to fish especially for kings. The advantages that I see over straight mooching are that you cover much more ground and kicking the motor in and out of gear allows you to cover more of the water (depth wise) automatically. I have had many kings hit the bait as it was dropping after putting the motor into neutral. The advantages over straight trolling are that you can use much lighter gear and you are fishing different heights in the water table. It is a great technique and doesn't require some of the equipment (fishfinders, downriggers, etc.) that other methods use. To be most effective, motor mooch in the direction of the prevailing tide/current. Go for it!!

When there were a (lot) more fish around, regular mooching was great and you stood a chance at the larger fish, especially kings,.
Now motor mooching is the way to go, you cover a lot more area. Fish different depths
as the kings tend to run 35-200 feet depending on the area. We hit fish last week at Poulier Pass anywhere from 65-125 ft just using cut plugs, no flasher. laugh
