Hi, I am new to the NW and have my first flyfishing lesson on May 24th. I am looking for some one or few to fish with. Not necessarily flyfishing. Dont really know the area yet or what to do out there. If anyone is interested on showing the new girl around I would appreciate it. Thanks

Welcome to the PacNW. I moved out here several years ago and I love it. So give us some vitals...age, your sign, etc. Welcome to the board, and hopefully you won't be too scared by Osprey.....he's the disgruntled postal worker that frequents the board.

Hi Raindrop. Welcome to the BB.
You have indeed landed in a top NW fishing area, particularly for steelhead and salmon fishing. I'm curious how you came to chose a nice place like Forks?
This is a good place to get oriented to NW fishing techs. I suggest browsing around in the 'how to' post threads in the pages of the BB here (thread = topic + replies). And also check out the tips sections of this Piscatorial Pursuits website for a lot of valuable fishing info. As was mentioned, spending some time having a fishing shop emplyee show you the basics of rigging and suggestions of wherer and how to fish. Good luck, and ask any questions you like.

You guys have been great. Thanks for all the advice. I moved to Forks from Florida for a job. Working as a fishery biologist. Other stats: I am single, 37, no kids, but do have a dog. I am a virgo and like long walks on the beach. What ever!! Keep the advice coming and hope to see ya'll on the rivers. Rain Drop [ 05-17-2001: Message edited by: Rain Drop ]

Watchout Raindrop. Single and like to fish. Ouch. You'll probably have 5 dozen guys knockin on your door. Bad thing, is that their idea of a romantic date is a old pickup, brand new drift boat, a loomis drift rod, a jar of well cured eggs, a bait box full of stinky sand shrimp, can of warm pop, and a peanut butter sandwich. If it wasn't for a wife and four kids, I'd probably be in line too. Post your questions, and I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to help you out. Good luck and welcome. You may want to book a couple of trips with Bob to get an idea of some places for you to fish. Would sure cut down on a lot of wasted time and frustration. Just remember to let those wild ones go. Love em and Leave em. Peace

Hey Rain Drop, that's really cool. Maybe you can keep us up on the inner happenings and decision criteria of the Tribal Fishing Commission. I seem to have forgotten the name of the head of that commission offhand; can you remind of who that is? Also, you will find that some of the Oly Pen steelie nates will fight like Florida tarpon. Have fun. ... I hope you aren't just a fantasy. If not, then ignore the following. ...... OK, which one of you @hotmail.com yahoos registered as Rain Drop. Not in the mood to look it up; or even if it's from Terrace or here. Just have some fun 'stimulating' the guys here - I like it.

That didn't sound too bad. It sounded just like what we other stalkers know about people. Hey Rain Drop, being from LA (lower Alabama), you will miss the sunshine of the white, sandy beaches and that emerald green water. The fishing is cool out here, as long as the rivers aren't blown out, and their aren't any gillnets choaking the river you are fishing on. You came to the right place for info, help, tips, and plenty of friends to take you fishing. I've got 2 lots down in Freeport,FL and the neighbor called and said it was 92 degrees down there. The weather is much more mild out here, and you will actually pray for rain if it will move your fish into the rivers. Although, when you pray for rain it sounds like please let it rain for 3 days, but not 4. 4 would be bad and it would puke my river.....LOL That's usually how the prayers go. Rain Drop, please pardon my doubt. It's just that we get a few young 'trolls' on here now and then that play name games. ...
So, where were we? ... Oh ya, we were discussing when would be a good time for me to meet your dog and take you fishing to show you the ropes. Ah, wait, only 'Yall uses ropes. But I would be glad to teach you how to fish for these great NW salmon and steelhead sometime. And would you show me how to bone fish? We believe we have the best fishing in the world in the NW quadrant of this continent, and you are in one of the better places on the outer OP. I love to flyfish for steelhead. Since most of the OP rivers are glacial melt fed you will likely do better with conventional tackle until the rivers warm up and clear some more. It's still worth trying though. For now, I suggest using a sinktip flyline and bright attractor wetfly steelhead patterns, fished first in a natural drift presentation and then, after properly mending your line, let the fly swing across holding water. Local tackle shops are a good place to find what works best for the rivers you will fish. Good luck and let us know how you are progressing. Take care. - Steve

Hey Sparky: Don't double your age so quick. Just means you have less time to fish before you turn in to fertilzer (aka: worm food). Let's hope she doesn't find Rats' favorite rock on the Oly Penn. He would be lost, and wouldn't have a clue where to fish

Welcome aboard RainDrop There's a ton of info here...also a few over aged ....undersexed fellow fisherman all in all a good bunch, even the so called "Attempted Moderator" ...don't worry he's harmless, after the abuse he's put his body thru over the years I'm sure you can out run him just head down toward the river.....he's sure to fall down at some point . If you ever decide to come south and try a few other rivers. The Redneck and I would love you the ropes ......Have fun.....Os Director of Entertainment (Naked Twister) Sauk River Steelhead Ranch Redneck Pro-Staff (when I get good I'll join Vision) [ 05-18-2001: Message edited by: The Reel Osprey ]
