Morning folks,

My dad is interested in fishing in the Neah Bay area. He said that 47 years ago it was the best he had ever seen. He knows times have changed, but wondered what it was like up there now?

Can anyone recommend any guide services or charter boats? He wants to do some ocean fishing and river, so we may do a little of both. Any help finding a good couple places would be most appreciative.

If there is a more appropriate place for this, point me towards it.

thanks,
richard

Halibut fishing out of Neah Bay has been pretty much easy limits for the guys taking charter boat trips, just as long as the weather holds up. I've heard good things about Tommy Cod charters but dont have first hand experience.

And because Forks really isnt that far from Neah Bay it would be very easy to run a dual trip. You did say you would like to fish rivers also. Give Jim Leons a call at 360-374-3157. The Sol Duc is full of springers and they are some of the best fighting, best eating fish out there.

Good Luck!! smile

Halibut has been hopping out there, should be fun! You can also get a guide for the NW Oly. Penn rivers at Olympic Fishing Guides, 360-457-1700 or book through the Quality Fly Shop in Port Angeles, 360-452-5942.
Have fun and release the wild steelhead!

elzool,

the fishing at neah bay can still be quite good. you didn't mention when you were coming up, but right now halibut fishing is good, with the charters limiting out everyday. the season for halibut will probably end sometime in early june (but lasts all summer with a canadian license... hop the ferry to victoria on your way there). salmon opens july 1, and this year's run size numbers are pretty impressive for coho salmon along the coast. the salmon season should last til the end of september with the larger quotas on coho this summer.

to book a trip on one of the charters, call big salmon fishing resort at (800) 959-2374. they can book you a seat on a number of boats such as the six-pak (tommycod), satin doll, haliboat, etc. there's also a number of independent charter boats... a web search should pull up a couple names.

if you're staying overnight, the best motel/campground is The Cape Motel (360) 645-2250.

good luck if you head out there... the fishing's not as good as it was 50 years ago pretty much everywhere... but good fishing can still be had.
