cowlitzfisherman, Just a note, the daily commical, oops.. I mean chronical has a disclaimer at the bottem of their editorial page stating that letters to the editor must be under 500 words to be printed. If you shortened up your letter I'd be willing to bet that you'll get press time. Thanks for all your efforts and good luck!!!

Ihookum, Thanks for the advice! I have written numerous letters to our local joke of a paper "the Chronicle" I understand what you are saying. I always word count my letters before I send them in so that the editor can't refuse them for that reason. I have taken both the publisher and his pet editor, Larry Zander on several times. Even got them to do a small correction once about an article they had published about a local fishing group that I helped form. From that day on, the editor had declared "war" against me. The Chronicle is truly a "good old boy" paper. One day I wrote an article about our local school levy and it was supported completely by facts. My article was so damaging, that the editor had to fax a copy to the school superintendent for a rebuttal before he would even publish my letter to the editor. When I confronted the editor and publisher with the facts, the Publisher denied it and told me that his editor would never do that because that would be unethical and that the editor just flat didn't do it, and he did not believe a single word that I had said. I couldn't prove right then, but shortly afterwards when I was doing a Public Discloser request at our local school office, I found a secret internal letter called the "grapevine" I also found the copy of my letter that was faxed to the superintendent the same day that I had faxed my letter to Zander. It even had Larry Zander personal note stamp and Zander's hand written initials written right on it! Needless to say, the Chronicle's Editor and Publisher were caught in the middle of their own lies and I had to let them know so. So you see, the editor of the Chronicle has no lost love for me. Oh, did I mention that his kids were in the same school that my levy letter was addressing. Who ever said that the "good old boys" aren't still alive and well?

I can Assure you that in NO way did we mean to brush anyone off regarding the Wallace Access situation. Friends of the Cowlitz is involved in this situation mainly through Bob, founder of CPR Fish. It is not Friends of the Cowlitz's policy to fly off on the handle until we have all of the facts. Bob has kindly emailed us the map of the area in question. We are continuing to research this matter. Sincerely, Donald H. Glaser President Friends of the Cowlitz

Thanks Kathy. Kathy works in the office (right?) for the F.O.C. Bob, I just read your PM to me, and I'm glad I could offer you some advice. Andy, top-notch! I was down that way yesterday, but I did not make it to the area in question, but I am going down there tomorrow. With time and daylight permitting, I will swing by there and see what I see. If that cop handling the grievance does not get back to you ASAP, you let me know. Also put a call back in with him to see the "update" which basically puts a candle under his ass to produce. If you still aren't getting the reach around, you let me know and then we'll see who is doing the bending muh ha ha ha ha ha ha and I'm not talking about "dueling banjos" playing in the background either.

I stopped by the area on Saturday and the gate wasn't open, if it was the one just before the gravel pit on the right. I was just passing through after scouting for deer in the Ryderwood unit, so I wasn't there to fish. The river looks pretty low.

Andy, The gate to the access area is a large "red" round pipe gate. I will send you an email of it. Let us know if this was the area that you were looking at!

I went into their parking lot and near the "office check in" sign, but didn't notice any red gate. Never been there before, so I wasn't sure where to look. The only one that I saw was the yellow one as you get back on to Mandy Rd. Had to take a pitstop with my son by the boat launch for a few minutes, but an appointment in Oly at 1:00pm meant no real fishin' time.

Has anybody besides Andy M been down to fish the Wallace Gravel Pit Public fishing access area this week? If so, did anyone have any problems with any locked gates? The lower river has been pretty hot fishing for summer runs! Please let us know if you have had any problems with the pit owner or his people.
Good luck fishing,
Cowlitzfisherman
