I fish a 1262 All Star for floats. It is a great rod for the buck but if I could do it over again I would go with the 1263 which provides a little bit more versatility.

The 1262 tends to collapse a little when I am fishing bigger floats which leads to more lead or when I am fishing bigger water but you can throw a small float and just a wee bit of lead across the Sky no problem. The 1263 can cast the lighter setups as well but has enough power to bury a 1/0 in a 'nook and then land him.

BTW-All Star and Loomis have the same numbering system so if Superfly or I am refering to say the 1263 All-Star that same rod is available as a Loomis.

Loomis is in the process of going through a major overhaul in the manner in which they market, sell and distribute their blanks.

As the change is finalized, blanks will be available from 4 distributors. One being in Washington, another one is Cabelas and the other two I am not sure of. Also the blanks will be readily avaliable instead of the 3-4 weeks which is commonplace. And I also understand Loomis will not limit which blanks they will sell to their distributors.

BTW-Loomis will be bringing back the IMX flyrods this fall as blanks only for anyone who is intrested.

Just had a Rainshadow 1264 built. Tried it out in Sitka on chinook to @ 30lbs mooching. Worked great. Would also make a good float rod for that medium/heavy class. You can get blanks through Greg's Custom Rods in Lake Stevens.

Hey Kevin, just make sure your float rod is longer than your other rod. wink ...

Since Joe sells All-Stars and I don't allow me: I've owned a couple of them and I have also used several of them while fishing with Joe. They seem to be a first rate rod - and a great value for the price. They have been around for a long time and a former GLoomis engineer helped design their new line of salmon and steelhead rods. They have a higher modulous rating than the GL3's yet cost a little less than a GL2! About a can't miss value. - RT

Ive got a couple of rainshadow rods, I just got a float rod and boy it works well, if you would like more info about them, contact TH of thcustomrods.com , they are a class act rod builder, Ive had 5 rods built by them and never had a problem. I think they sell blanks to. give them a shot I think you will like there prices. warrentys are as good or better than Loomis. just my 2 cents smile

thanks for the input, I was curious as to the modulous rating of rainshadow v allstar. I have not been able to find much information on these rods.

thanks again
