Hey fellas,

A friend and I are rigging his sled with a fish finder. The finder and it's transducer are all mounted with the finder mounted up by the steering wheel.

He is considering putting a second, smaller fish finder back by the trolling motor. The question we have is can you run 2 fish finders off 1 transducer? Also, if you were to do this, do the fish finders have to be identical?

Anybody know the poop on this?

Thanks.

You would be better off using a second transducer for your second unit. I have an interphase 20/20 CRT and an Eagle unit on my boat. The connection jacks are not compatable, a problem you would most likely run into, and if you're getting a second unit I am assuming it is because you want additional features other than those than the finder that came with the boat. You could add temp and speed options on the second TD, possibly.

If you just want to be able to read the finder near the back of the boat, put an additional mounting bracket there. You may have to get an extension, if available, or a new cable and transducer.

Placement is also an issue. Through-hulls and transom mounts are more useful if hey stay in contact with the water at all speeds so that you can read depth while running. It will help you find holes, but maybe not spot fish doing 40mph. (unless you spend a lot)

Through-hulls are better placed farther back nearer the transom so that the section of the hull that they are attached to stays in contact with the water, even at top speed.

Transom mounts should be away from the prop/jet, but level with the horizon. Too far down and you tear it off on the rocks, too far up and you don't get a steady read.

Lastly, make sure you read the directions twice before you start drilling.

Best of luck. A
