I was fishing the upper green for steelhead when I had a good hookup. Thought it was a large steelhead. However after 10 minutes I finally got it to shore it was nice chinook very chrome(released unharmed). Is there a springer run on the green or just a very early Fall Chinook?

Spoonman,
Those could be summer chinook, was it a wild fish?? We get a small run of bright wild chinook that return to the lewis during late june and through july. Sort of like the kings we get in jan-feb that are mint bright wild fish, are they late falls or winter chinook? I don't know if there is a true classifycation, or deadline that determines what you'd call these fish.

I know that the Green use to get a springer run when the White use to run in to in instead of the Puyallup in the 20's. But it was my understanding that when the river got changed that the fish just stacked up in the head works and the run kinda dyed off. So it could have a small run but I've never heard of them being caught. I know that they are saying that the king run is goin to be good might be an early Summer King??

there is a run of spring kings on the green, the muckelshoots plant them heavy, also they have been picking fall kings up in the nets in the lower river.

Several years ago i also caught a summer chinook on the green. It was in July. I asked a fish and wildlife guy and he said there is a small amount of springers in the green system.
