I am hoping to be out on the opener in area 10 this weekend. I expect that there will be some incidental catch of ESA Chinook. As there is no swim step or easy way to reach the water I am looking for an simple way or device to help de-hook Fish.

I have heard that a dowel with an open eye hook, like a teacup hanger, can be used to release fish unharmed. Run the eye hook to the hook, shake it and they come loose.

Has anyone used such a tool? Can you describe such a thing?

Thanx

GutZ

That tool that you described works all right.

It's a stick with a tea cup hook twisted into the end of it (small cup hook). You can buy those sticks at a craft shop or in the hardware section at Wal-Mart. We used the 1/4" diamter stick. I'd go with the larger diameter.

That's what it looks like, roughly, of course.

You can always use the old reliable method! Just cut your line! This fish is heading to his last trip home, so the hook won't matter too much now!

Cowlitzfisherman,

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook???? Maybe so in this case!!
