O.K, I know this board is about salmon and steelhead but I also know that some of you are guilty of sneaking around behind your buddys backs and do a little bass fishing on the side. Yesterday, went out with one of the buds and tryed for some bass etc. Went up to a lake that I have not fished for years and started getting into some real nice bluegill. By nice I mean bigger than your hand. Anyway, after a while we started getting bored and the guy I was with was telling me that the lake also had some big trout in it and that maybe we should troll some rapalas back to the boat dock "It was getting hotter than hell" .. so we tied on some countdowns and started trolling in the open water... bam..fish on.. nice one.. its gotta be a big trout. SURPRIZE!!!! its a bluegill and it weighs 2 lbs 2 oz. Anyway, long story made short.. the lake was crawling with them. The biggest one was 2 lb 8 oz. They were about the size of a sheet of paper. I can't remember having more fun trolling. I am going to go back up there and do it again.

I think the biggest one I've ever caught was right over 3 pounds, but our average is 1.5 pounds at one of my ponds back in Bama.

Nightcrawlers, crickets, or a small Rat'L trap works. The Rat'L trap catches the bigger ones for us. Troll that lure and check it out. Blue and Chrome or Gold and Black.

Where legal, chumming these fish up is a piece of cake and makes for extraordinary action. I'll post later on one of the most effective ways to chum them up.

How many hands do I see for making "bluegill", "crappie", or "bass" a banned word on the board :p

Just kidding, not all of us are blessed with being around salmon / steelhead all year ... glad to see some other topics come up.

How come it doesn't surprise me that Hey Yall knows all about these guys laugh

Here's that model that I promised. Sorry, it's not Heidi or Daniela, but still really good action for your rod just the same. laugh

Ok, in the pic (if this works) you'll notice a float setup with a hook/circle attached on top. Follow the line down to the mesh bag (panty hose works well), and then you'll notice the weight at the bottom.

Adjust the depth that you want your dogfood (catfood works better) suspended at. Take your fishing rig and adjust your bait to be the around the same depth as the mesh sack of dog food.

The hook on top of the float, in the diagram, is for retrieval purposes. They are easy to make, and what we've used for a float is an empty milk container. It works great and has a place already made for retrieval. This is a great method for really putting smiles on a kid's face as the action usually is really good! I hope this helps.

Well, I couldn't get the pic to load frown You can view the diagram in the "VISITOR'S PICTURE SECTION" The link is at the top of this page. It's under the "Miscellaneous Pics" section. It's not hard to find since it has a great description.

LOL...yeah Bob, who'd a thunk it, that I might have an "edge" in this category...muh ha ha ha ha

******* CHECK YOUR REGS. TO MAKE SURE THIS METHOD IS LEGAL ON THE BODY OF WATER YOU ARE FISHING!!!! *********
