I know this isn't a fishing related topic but a lot of us also hunt. I called the WDFW wildlife program folks today and they said that they should have the special permit drawing results up on their website sometime this week! The new WILD system has made it easier for them to transfer the info a lot quicker. Next year should be even sooner as they work the bugs out of the system. I hope I get that moose tag! Here is the link: Special permit drawing results Best of luck to you all, Andy

I got a cow tag in the Chehalis unit, October 1-31, and my nephew got a doe tag in the Quilomene area! No moose, sheep, or goat tags. (Sorry to mention sheep, Osprey. Didn't mean to get ya excited.)

I got drawn for my first and only choice of elk hunts..Quinault AHE. Only five permits in October. Also a doe permit, but no moose...
My friend applied for the same as I, but they did not have his elk hunts listed..They told him that they "outsourced" the work (the people who input your choice numbers) to an Arizona company. He is not the only one apparently...

Hi RW,
I drove past the Quinault ridge turn-off yesterday on my way back from Sekiu. That is some tall country. Best of luck. Andy

Hey RW,
McCleary's yearly shindig is the bear festival, so yes, there are bears around here. You have to look for them in the clearcuts where you can find berries. It's a glassing type of hunt, mostly, except for my buddy who walked into one and shot it at about 10 yards last year. It was feeding on a patch of blackberries and didn't want to leave. He also filled his cougar tag!
Your best bet is to head up to the penninsula where you will find more numbers, or you could head over to northeastern WA, near Newport, where there are a lot of bears.
I have seen lots of sign, chased one through the thick stuff once and saw a patch of black fur running through the bushes, but I have yet to see an entire bear in the wild.
I plan on having this guy take me out looking for bear this year, as he has tagged out 4 of the last 5 years and led a few friends on to them as well. We just moved to McCleary, so it would be nice to contribute some meat to the bear festival stew.
Best of luck, Andy

Dogfish--
I normally hunt bears on the Upper Peninsula, (9 in the last nine years, + 7 for others) but am looking for and area closer to Oly.
Been looking in the Capitol Forest area lately.

WOW! 9 for 9. That is very impressive. I have bought bear tags for the last few years 'cause they were cheap, but only pursued them a few times, mostly opportunistically.
I am 13 for 13 on deer and 3 for 8 on elk, but I haven't been around anyone who hunts bears hard until my wife met a new lady friend this year, and her husband loves to hunt bears.
I would be willing to share a few spots where I have seen tracks if you would share knowledge. Most of these spots are near where I live, and only a short mountainbike trip in of about 2-4 miles. You should see the looks when I come down the hill with a buck strapped to my bike! Two years ago we saw a bobcat in this area, and have seen lots of tracks. Taken two coyotes and lots of grouse from this area as well. Take care, and let me know, Andy

Dogfish- Sounds good.. Send me an email. riverswild@hotmail.com
Two of those nine years I got skunked, but then got two in each of the next two years.
I usually spot and stalk or stump sit, but I also do alot of calling.
