I was just kind of wondering, if the Sockeye counts in Lake Washington are too low to warrant a fishery will the tribes still get to net the sockeye? I mean, is the run to small to support a fishery, or is the run just too small to support a sport fishery?

Oh hell yeah, I bet they will get to net they always do even though they probably take more fish than a sport fishery ever would.

They'll do it in the name of a "test fishery". I think they've already done some netting, actually.

They are netting in the sound right now. May be the reason why the counts are low. If enough get by and they open it up then they can fish in the lake too.

Littlezozo- Have you had your head in the sand for the last 10 years? the tribes always get to net, bottom line. They will be netting til the last salmon and steelhead is gone. Then they will find something else to net that they can get .20 a lbs for until it is gone!

That's too damn bad. Really, I can't believe that with a run being too small to allow a fishery, the Indians still will get a net fishery. It sucks. I for one, have stopped going to Indian Casinos, and I urge everyone on this board to do the same. Hell, I live on the edge of a reservation and I didn't even buy Indian Fireworks this year. Stop supporting these Ba$tards now! Don't go to their casinos, don't buy their cheap tobacco, don't buy their fireworks, and whatever you do, never ever buy Indian caught fish or eggs. It probably won't do any good, but at least I can rest easy knowing that it wasn't me who contributed to every sportfisherman in this state taking it up the A$$ in the name of treaty rights..... Too F%@$&*g if this offends anybody. This is my opinion, more importantly, it's the right opinion. mad

I was out at the Newcastle Park Wednesday around noon. The park faces the lake and the East side of Mercer Island. Me and my daughter were there riding bikes and flying a kite.LOL

We saw a small barge that said "Muckleshoot" on the side of it, and what looked like a small lift of some sorts and one of those giant rollers that trucks haul fiberoptic cable around with that what appeared to be a net of sorts connected to it. There was also a small tug, or pilot boat driving around it in circles. I assumed they were netting. Later on a much larger boat pulled up next to it and I think they were offloading fish.

Earlier in the week we were out for a boat ride around the lake with a few friends and saw the same barge with nets on it parked under the east high-rise of the I-90 bridge on the west side of mercer island.

In my opinion I think letting the Tribes net is a joke considering they are the ones making the decision along with the WDFW.

It's true about the perch. I wonder how long it is before they're draping nets around private docks to get smallmouth bass.

Note he said "take advantage of the resource"

That's exactly what they are doing and it's all about the money, not the heritage. Last time I checked, I didn't know the heritage ever included anything commercial whatsoever. But, I guess they were selling these fish off the back of a horse's ass hundreds of years ago.

Who's seen the movie 12 monkeys? Anybody want to start an army of the 12 fish?

Oh Come On Blueback! The only reson you even have those resources is because the rest of us are paying into the system that the tribes have come to depend on! And don't even start with the "Crybaby" thing. Who are the ones who are always whining for more? WAAAA! WAAA! We want to net this run of fish! WAAA! WAAA! We want to net that run of fish! WAAA! WAAA! We want to kill off all the Elk herds! WAAA! WAAA! We want BPA To pay us $32000.00 for a rain dance that we did.....That didn't work! You've got to be kidding me! You are not simply "Taking advantage of the resources, you are using a loophole in the system as a way to "Rub the White Man's nose in it" For every injustice that's ever been committed against the Native American people. Well, payback time has come and gone. What else do you want? We gave you the Elk, we gave you the salmon and Steelhead, we gave you the Shellfish, we even gave you an entire F*****G Whale! Nobody gets to kill whales! But we let the Native Americans kill one, because they whined about it. Hell, I haven't even mentioned the Millions of dollars the Tribes get annually in Federal assistance! Not to mention the fact that your children will be more likely to be awarded a college scholorship than mine..... Because of their race! By the way, you would also have a much better chance of landing any sort of a Government job than me.... Again, because of your race. So don't ever call me a crybaby. Call us stupid when we buy your Indian fireworks, call us suckers when we lose at Blackjack in your Indian casinos, and call us ignorant when we buy into your little "Poor me, I'm a poor conqured Indian" speech, But don't call us Crybabies. You should be thanking your maker every night, that you are fortunate enough to live in a society where everything is handed to you on a platter just because of your race. I'm sorry if I've come across as a "Redneck", but somebody has to set you people straight.

I am extremely critical of the Tribes and their harvesting practices. I do not agree with ANYTHING the Tribes have to say. Now, that being said, my felings toward the Tribes have nothing to do with a hatred of their race. Oregon Fish Chaser: Please edit or delete your post or at least respond so as to clarify what you just said. If the wrong person were to see this thread, your post could be construed as being racist in nature, and the whole damn thread might get Axed. I do not like the behavior of the Tribes at all, but to say that we should start committing acts of violence against them..... Well, that's sort of what got us into this mess in the first place.
