I was just kind of wondering, if the Sockeye counts in Lake Washington are too low to warrant a fishery will the tribes still get to net the sockeye? I mean, is the run to small to support a fishery, or is the run just too small to support a sport fishery?

Oh hell yeah, I bet they will get to net they always do even though they probably take more fish than a sport fishery ever would.

They'll do it in the name of a "test fishery". I think they've already done some netting, actually.

They are netting in the sound right now. May be the reason why the counts are low. If enough get by and they open it up then they can fish in the lake too.

That's too damn bad. Really, I can't believe that with a run being too small to allow a fishery, the Indians still will get a net fishery. It sucks. I for one, have stopped going to Indian Casinos, and I urge everyone on this board to do the same. Hell, I live on the edge of a reservation and I didn't even buy Indian Fireworks this year. Stop supporting these Ba$tards now! Don't go to their casinos, don't buy their cheap tobacco, don't buy their fireworks, and whatever you do, never ever buy Indian caught fish or eggs. It probably won't do any good, but at least I can rest easy knowing that it wasn't me who contributed to every sportfisherman in this state taking it up the A$$ in the name of treaty rights..... Too F%@$&*g if this offends anybody. This is my opinion, more importantly, it's the right opinion.

I was out at the Newcastle Park Wednesday around noon. The park faces the lake and the East side of Mercer Island. Me and my daughter were there riding bikes and flying a kite.LOL We saw a small barge that said "Muckleshoot" on the side of it, and what looked like a small lift of some sorts and one of those giant rollers that trucks haul fiberoptic cable around with that what appeared to be a net of sorts connected to it. There was also a small tug, or pilot boat driving around it in circles. I assumed they were netting. Later on a much larger boat pulled up next to it and I think they were offloading fish. Earlier in the week we were out for a boat ride around the lake with a few friends and saw the same barge with nets on it parked under the east high-rise of the I-90 bridge on the west side of mercer island. In my opinion I think letting the Tribes net is a joke considering they are the ones making the decision along with the WDFW.

Saw a lone sled this mornins sitting in the same spot we caught a bunch of Sockeye around this time last year. Couldn't tell if they had their rods out.

It's true about the perch. I wonder how long it is before they're draping nets around private docks to get smallmouth bass.

Note he said "take advantage of the resource"
That's exactly what they are doing and it's all about the money, not the heritage. Last time I checked, I didn't know the heritage ever included anything commercial whatsoever. But, I guess they were selling these fish off the back of a horse's ass hundreds of years ago.
Who's seen the movie 12 monkeys? Anybody want to start an army of the 12 fish?
