WTO police actions make headlines with their questionable tatics, then during mardi gras they stand by while party goers are shot at and stabbed. We heard of the officer who exploited the teenage girl and the officer accessing porn sites on his patrol car computer. The other day in a pursuit of a stolen cruiser two officers ram each other and then shoot it out. Now this officer interrogates/harrasses an entire group of asian students, with racial slurs included, for j walking! I realize that there are hundreds of officers in our area and some are true heros doing a near impossible job for little pay. With this in mind, are we just hearing about a few bad apples or is there a problem with the entire system? Considering the task these individuals face and the fact that they pack loaded weapons around can't they do a little better job of evaluating potential officers?

OK. So you take that kid that everyone used to pick on back in highschool. You know him. The kid with the really bad acne, the one that you used to snap with your towell in P.E. class. The kid who was the Hall moniter, the only one who refused to partake in Senior Ditch day. You send him to school, you give him the Authority to put pull people over, harass them, bully up on kids, and then as if giving this guy a little authority isn't enough, you give this guy with all kinds of pent up aggression and resentment towards the world..... Yup, you guessed it.... You give this guy a big F*****g pistol. Big surprize that we have problems from time to time with our law enforcement officers. To quote a friend of mine, who is a county Sheriff, "Law enforcement is the dirtiest business there is... You'd $hit if you knew the half of what goes on." Law Enforcement Officers: Please don't take too much offense at these statements. I'm not saying that the above statemnts apply to all Officers.... Hell, I don't even think that the above statements apply to the Average officer. I think that these statements apply to a small percentage of officers, and this small percentage, serves to blemish the reputation and credibility of every Officer out there.

In every segment of society you will have a bad element, that is just how it is. It would be nice if we lived in a Utopian society where all good guys were good, but last time I checked, we all lived in the real world. Don't let the actions of a few folks ruin your perception of the many good folks out there.
That being said, what purpose is this post supposed to serve? Is it supposed to be a thinly veiled slam on all officers out there? I could just as easily malign all of those under-educated, alchoholic iron workers who go home and beat their wives every night. I wouldn't do that though, because it just wouldn't be fair to make broad statements about an entire group when only a few of them are a--holes.
The only peolpe who tend to have problems with law enforcement are those who regularly break the law, or are in fear of being caught while doing something that they shouldn't be doing int the first place. They also tend to be the loudest squawkers. There are exceptions, but not many. Who are you? Have a nice day, Andy

Aw C'mon Andy! Those Alcholic Iron workers are a lot of fun! I used to love showing up on the Job site every Monday morning, We'd all take bets on which one of the Ironworkers was in jail! Man, I loved those guys, the certainly made for an entertaining day at work!

Wow, sorry for the non-fishing post. I personally have not had problems with most officers but now that my kids are getting older I have become more concerned with who they can approach in case a problem occurs. I considered this bb a place to discuss what was on your mind as well as give fishing tips. I meant no harm and regret posting what was bothering me at the time.
If you still haven't caught a fish here is what I did to catch my last one: 1) go to the bridge on highway 2 just before Index and park on the west side 2) hike down by the bridge but don't start casting until you are about half way down the stretch. 3) Use eggs with a small white and pink corkie and about 30 inch leader-10# Stren 4) Put enough weight to touch the bottom but don't let it drag. 5) Start by casting in close but gradually cast farther until you are convinced you have covered as much water as you can...this is important because a lot of fish will hold here trying to decide which fork they will ascend. 6) Before giving up on this stretch hed down further-just above the tail-out. The trick here is to cast into the slot which is only about 25 feet from shore. There are some snags so try to feel your set-up throughout your drift. Again I'm sorry for the non-fishing post. If you are still pissed at me, my e-mail is in my profile.

Hey, Ill be the first to admit that there are some cops out there that just should'nt be cops.
There are some cops out there that do it for the power trip. These guys love ruining peoples days and thats what they live for. I think these are wrong reasons.
I do it because it makes me feel good to help people. I do it to help the victims. I do it to give the kids a role model and maybe teach them a little respect. In so many familys the kids have knowone to look up to or learn from. IT REALLY DOES START AT HOME. Nine times out of ten its not the kids fault, it the parents, or the lack of.

Hey Snapper,
Nothing personal, but I have a big issue when anyone starts to generalize about police. Many of us have friends, and family who are in that line of work, or we have done that kind of work in the past. It is an extremely hard job that doesn't have a lot of perks to it. Are there some jerks out there, sure there are.
The only time people celebrate the actions of the police is when they catch some murderer or rapist, or when they help deliver someone's baby on the side of the road.
When they pull over some escaped felon who, has been committing crime since he was 15, is high as a kite, tries to run from the police, drags an officer down the road for a while, and the officers end up shooting the guy, the officers are the ones who are villified by a segment of our society. That is just not right.
These teenagers were part of a leadership group. What fact makes them immune from the law. They're teenagers? Asian? There are 14 of them? They are part of a leadership group? Just how long do you think it takes to ID and control 14 people? Now try writing it all down as well. Three minutes per person sounds reasonable, even pretty fast.
Ask yourself what kind of society you want to live in. Teach your kids to respect the law and those who enforce it, and hopefully you won't ever get a call in the middle of the night to come down and pick up your kids at the police station or jail. Rich G is right on the money when he says that problem children really have problem parents. Be a great example to your kids because they are always watching what you do, even if you don't think they are.
If you speed and get caught, take the ticket like a man. It would be a great example to your kids that you respect the law, and that they should, too. What kind of example are some of these other folks being for their kids?
Zozo, I have a client who was an ironworker from Chicago, actually he was a foreman, and I look forward to meetings with Ed 'cause he has some of the best stories you have ever heard. I have to agree with you on that one.
Now, let's get back to fishing. Andy

Oh Hey Andy, I hear you. When it comes to good entertainment and good "War Stories", you just can't find anybody better than the Ironworkers, they've always kept me in stitches..... Sort of makes me think I joined the wrong Union.

Andy, I work off of two different computers. I couldn't use the same moniker for both computers, so I had to become Zozo on one, and Little Zozo on the other. As far as there being more than one of me is concerned... I'd feel pretty safe saying that one of me is enough, wouldn't you?

I am able to log on to both home and work computers using the same name. All you have to remember is your password. I'm glad to see that there is only one of you, cause' it would be a b**ch to figure out which one of you was the 'evil twin!' Take care, Andy [ 07-17-2001: Message edited by: Dogfish ]
