Fish were scattered south of 2. Cut plug green label did the trick. Originally we were trying for nookies around the CR but my two passengers barfed 3 times a piece. I took a vote and we were fishing Silvers. Six nice silvers in the box. Released 1 native/hatchery fish. Also released tons of jellyfish from 20 pulls on down. Anyone else have that problem near 2? South of 2 it was not so bad.
Going back Sunday, anyone else heading there?

What are the conditions like down there? Is it suitable for small boats like a Seaswirl 18 footer? I won't do the bar at Westport, but I will fish Sekiu. Is it comparable?
You also mention plug cut herring, are you motor mooching, mooching, trolling, anchored in current or trolling downriggers? I like the productivity of Sekiu, can't knock 47 fish in 12 hours over 3 days, but the drive is pretty long from here, 165 miles. Is the fishing as good as this? Thanks in advance, Andy

Very tough bar indeed! I would not recommend and 18ft boat on that bar unless it is pretty flat and it is a very nice day with no weather in sight. The fishing is excellent when the barometer is steady. This last Sunday the barometer had fallen and the fish had scattered. Motor trolled for them between .6 knots and 1.5 knots. 8 to 36 pulls out. We usually hit Chinook at 25 to 36 pulls but not this week end.
Back to the bar question. Sunday the 8th a small boat attempted to go over the bar during the last two hours of the ebb tide. Didn't make. He rolled his boat between the jetties. His boat finally sank around bouy 6. Once you make the commitment to go, don't try to turn around in those rollers. this is what happens. My advice is go with someone experienced with this bar. It could help you avoid misfortunes.

I'll pass. I like going home, and not in a box.

Fishhammer the Flotilla "RB". Fubby said to let you know they slayed 'em Saturday. They were limited in an hour and a half (4 people). It must be good 'cause he gave me one of his Chinooks, he has no room in his freezer. He is begging me to go, but I have learned my lesson (16 times) about the ocean, I don't care how flat it is. We are going to get some Steelhead after work tomorrow. Glad to hear you guys are catching fish out there. I am almost tempted to try the "patch" I got for fishing in Costa Rica. Just hate being sick out there with "Captain Nick" shaking his head in disgust.

Spooled, RRRRRRR.BBBBBBBB? Well let me tell ya little fella. On my boat you would be the net b., because my rod would be busy all the time he he he. Hey, we have been having a blast out there. Just wish it were open 7 days a week like the rest of the coast. Got five going this Sunday but I have a feeling from the reports that we may need to search for the fish a little harder. First few weeks it was really easy but with the barometer down it has put the fishing off a little.
Tell Flubby howdy and that its nice to know that he is not the blind squirel trying to find the acorn. Is he still fishing Garabaldi area? Tell him when he starts fishing 10 to give me a call on the radio. Find out what chanel he will monitor this year.
Hey, a buddy of mine just slayed the steelhead on the Columbia yesterday. ie dave and brandon. 9 fish on, five landed, 1 hatchery. Dave did land on in the 15lb range. Put a motor on that drift boat boy, theres fishes to be a catch'in.
yours truely

Dogfish, going home in a box would mean they found your body. That doesn't always happen. I would also caution people on crossing this bar. I have been across nearly every bar on the Oregon coast and the Columbia is by far the worse bar. (Hey that ryhmes.) So far this year, I have not seen a flat bar, but I can tell you that smaller boats do and will get across. The fishing on Sunday and yesterday was tougher than two weeks ago, but there are still fish available for those willing to put in their time. I also would recommend going on a charter a few times to see what you are dealing with. The charters that I have seen are doing well. Those Captains know where the fish are and they can produce.
