I have been bank fishing it for a few years now, And was wondering why I don't ever see any drift boats floating it. I have found places to put in and pull a boat out on both the main stream and the North fork and with the run of silvers they should get this year thought it would be away to get away from the crowds but still get the family in some good fishing. Please let me know if you have any thoughts... Thanks and keep the hooks sharp.

I've got a friend who floated the Toutle last year..... He's an extremely experienced oarsman and he said that it was the worst, most dangerous float he's ever done in his life. He broke an oar and lost his anchor. He told me that he wouldn't float the Toutle again for a million dollars. He said that the area around Hollywood gorge was especially bad. I've never been down the Toutle, so everything I'm telling you is second-hand, but from the sounds of things this isn't a float for the wife and kids.... I could be wrong though. Has anyone else on the BB floated this river? Give us the scoop!

i think there is a fly shop up in toutle, and i know the guy guides out of his shop, i don't think he uses a drift boat but, i know he uses pontoon boats, sorry on the lack of info, i don't know his name and i don't know the name of his shop but, i do know it is toutle. If i can find the name of his shop i'll post it. That is about all the info i can give you! good luck

It's Toutle river Fly Shop. The guy's name is Gary Brault, and he's a great guy....I don't think he floats the Muddy fork though, only the South Fork.

+++I have since heard the Main stream of the toutle at Hollywood Gorge would tear a boat up. that being I think i will try to find out about the North Fork(Muddy Fork) I have spent a considerable amout of time scouting this area for put in's and pull-outs and have found a few. Any dangers on this stretch That I am not aware of and possible any where to put in off the 1900 line that I missed. Thanxs Matt

I driftboat alot and never have done the toutle, a good idea, but maybe we should scout it alot, nothing like ariel photos for that, that is how I do alot of scouting. Or a pontoon boat ride since you can easily pack them around most obstacles. Peace Superfly

Maybe pontoon baots on the south fork. But only if you have a death wish on the N fork. You would'nt believe the sticks hidden under the water.Little spears in hiding. They've been sharpened up pretty good from all the silt. Not to mention all the equipment, and old logging cable etc.Plus its just pretty hazardous water.Usually a drowning or 2 every year between swimmers and rafters.
