Hey guys, I need some technical help bad, not to mention just plain heeeeeeeeelp!!!!!!!


When I turn on my com. the 1st. thing that pops up is a naked gal, full screen, climbing a sand dune and I don't know where it came from, can't get rid of it, and it's pissen the wife off big time. Free float for the guy who gets rid of that gal.

Is it the wallpaper?...or something else??

If it's been set as your desktop background, you can change it by right clicking on your screen and selecting "properties" from the pop-up menu. If anything else pops up, you'd best leave it alone while the wife's around...

OK, now to help you stay out of trouble with the wife

This should work for you as long as you are running one of the latest versions of Windows:

-Go to the My Computer icon and double click

-Once My Computer is open go to the Control Panel folder and double click

-Look for the Display icon and double click

-Once you open up the Display icon, you will notice six tabs at the top of the window. The first one is background and should be open by default.

-Assuming that the Background tab is open, then all you have to do is use the scroll bar to select a different wallpaper.

Or you can try to find a picture to your liking that is not offensive to the wife and right click and choose Set as Wallpaper. This will automatically change your desktop background.

Good luck and if I'm eligible for the free float, then can we do Hell's Half Mile on the Calawah or the Bear Creek section of the 'Duc?

Left click? Sounds like someone is a southpaw.

What we in the tech field say is "If yer mouse is on the right-hand side do a right click and if it is on the left-hand side do a left click." THEN choose properties, and then background.

So, how exactly did that naked woman get on your PC?

She's not completly naked and she's a little fuzzy too but where she came from, who freakin knows. somebody the wife or I know prabably thinks it's real funny though It's not on my desk top, it's before that even pops up. Doesn't pop up if on hibernate or stand by.

Right Click on the naked cowgirl and view her properties, so you can get the entire name of the file.

Right Click on your start menu, and select "Explore".

After your file explorer is open, Right Click on your start menu again and select "Find".

Enter in the name of your naked cowgirl and this will do a search of your computer for her. When you find her, Delete her.

Same thing happened to me. My 12 y/o was in a chat room and someone sent him a link to a fine collection of porn. When he opened it, it somehow made "Hollywood Hoes" my homepage. Took me awhile to figure out how to get rid of it.... but I finally did.

There's a file with a .sys extention in your C:\ directory or windows directory that is about 127kb. It's a bitmap. (256 color picture for you ignorant hick fishermen) That's probably your culprit. Change it...

From what you've described, it sounds like the file is in the AUTOEXEC.bat. This is a text file that Windows uses when you boot up your PC, to determine the startup sequence. After the system checks available RAM, you see a graphic saying "Welcome to Windows 95, 98, 2000, whichever OS you have. The naked cowgirl file was probably written into the AUTOEXEC.bat to replace the "Welcome" screen.

If it disappeared at 12:00 a.m. 8/1, it was probably a file that was downloaded from the web by someone, installed, and expired at that time. I don't know if I would be deleting any .sys files if I were you. The bitmap file described above should have the .bmp extension to know that it is a bitmap file. Also bitmaps can be 16 bit, millions of colors as well, not just 256.

Anyway, before deleting anything fron the AUTOEXEC, it might be wise to have someone there with experience to assist you.

I know a little about computers...but I fish way more. :)When I saw that you were in trouble...I called upon my computer geek of a brother to help you out(he hates fishing.).

Actually, I don't think this problem would have to do with the autoexec.bat file. It is just a batch file that runs the same commands over and over every time the computer boots. The autoexec.bat file would have to contain a line that initiates another file to run. This file is probably a *.sys, *.exe, *.com or a *.bat file.

To get rid of this problem you must determine WHAT the file is, WHERE the file is, and HOW to get to the file. If it comes up on your screen before the desktop is activated then you will probably have to boot your computer from a floppy or cd-rom and work your way through dos to find the file. Dos? Oh, you have a mac, I'm sorry. That would mix the situation up. lol.

Now, here is where WHAT type of file and WHERE the file is that can make or break your day. Don't delete that file!!! If you delete that file without knowing how the relationship between it and the computer works, you could be setting yourself up for trouble. If the computer requests the file and it has been deleted then your computer may come up with an error (this depends on the file).....

Since your problem is solved I don't need to write a fishing bb master thesis on removing problems. I could sit her for an hour trying to write down ALL the possibilities of what is wrong. Don't worry I work with computers all the time. Any questions just contact me.

By the way it might not be a file! It could be a hacker depending on your internet connections, servers, etc. You might want to think about a firewall. These can be both software and hardware. They help keep your system from being infiltrated by hacker and crackers. Hacking programs come free, and are easy to use (From what I have been told). It wouldn't be hard for your son or someone else who knows you ip address to mess with your stuff.

I hope this gives you a little insight into how hard and yet easy things can be. The only true way to fix it is to be sitting in front of the computer. Even then....pull out the battery we're clearing CMOS!

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. I've used this trick to annoy friends before! The file is a bitmap (the term applies to raster image files of any color depth, don't make me get into comparing raster and vector!!!) usually called Logo.sys in your C:\ directory. The unfortunate news is that if your little prankster hasn't backed up the original, it's gonna be difficult to get your startup back to normal. You can delete Logo.sys, and it'll just display a blank screen instead of your little dune climber...

Autoexec.bat actually is not a program, just a list of commands DOS will execute before loading windows. As it is a DOS file, it is not actually required to run the computer... Unless you're running DOS of course!
