How many years of use do you guys gets out of these spendy waders? If you don't get more than 6 years of use from $300 waders, whats the difference between that and buying a new pair of inexpensive neoprenes every two or three years at $50.00 a pop? The benefit of the cheapers ones to me would seem to be that I wouldn't be out very much if I had a catastrophic failure with the cheapies. Is it really worth it? Andy

Dogfish,

I fished in neoprenes year round for over ten years. I bought some Simms breathables two years ago and I haven't worn my neoprenes since. Probably never will. You'll roast your ass off in the summer if you wear neoprenes. You can wear breathables in the summer and hardly sweat a drop. I wear my breathables in the winter with a pair of Waterworks and fleece pants and it keeps me plenty warm. Oh, yeah. I have worn them probably 200 times and not one leak. Peace

Dogfish,

I've had my L.L. Bean stockingfoot breathables for at least seven, maybe eight years, I can't remember. Got lots of days in them, no leaks yet.

One of my wading boots (of course they're separate) has a little delamination on the toe end of the sole, I'm going to send it back and get it fixed... for free.

I think I paid $250 seven or eight years ago, I think they're $300-$350 now, but I figure with a lifetime guarantee, why buy cheapo's?

Hey Kid,

Thanks for the info. I need waders primarily for duck hunting, but use them for fishing as well. Trying to get back into the river thing, as it will give me more fishing time and help to fill that January to March gap where nothing much is goin' on.

I rarely wade in the summer, but I can see where no insulation could be a good thing. I was into the float tube method many years back, and still have my Buck's Bag, but the only waders that came up high enough were the neoprenes.

By the way, nice pics and report on your AK trip. That has always been a dream of mine, but I'll have to wait until my wife goes back to work full time. Looking forward to it.

Andy

Onnce you go Gore-tex, you never go back!! laugh

You can get into a GREAT pair of breathables at $199. They are the Baileys and as this topic has been discussed over and over again, you can search the archives and see to a large agreement that the Baileys are the best breathables on the market and are almost half the price as the SIMMS guide models. Sorry George.

I got my Simms at Ted's Sport Center in Lynnwood. Most of my fishin buds have the Simms and I have yet to hear any complaints. Although there is a half inch thick layer of fish slime and egg/sanshrimp goo on them, they are holding up just fine. They also held up really well in Alaska on the Kenai and the Kasilof. Good luck with your new Simms purchase wink

I got mine from CABELAS. they also can be found on the web....Cabelas.com. mine have neopreme in the knees so I won't wear the knees out and the part behind my head where the straps buckle up is neopreme. much more comfy than any waders I could find. like was said. spend the money but make sure you get ones with a good warranty. some even have what they call unconditional warranty. if for any reason they leak you get new waders no questions asked!!!! spend the money if you can and don't screw around with cheap waders. I learned the hard way.

DC,

What kind of warranty comes with the Cabela's guide model? I've seen and heard several ringing endorsements -- much like what you offered -- but have seen no mention in the catalog or online what kind of warranty comes with them. Just curious if they offer something comparable to what Simms or Baileys provides. That would undoubtedly be a determining factor before I forked over $289.

Ok now I'm going to mess up your guy's debate smile. I've got a cheap pair of breathables at $129 (well it's cheap when talking about breathables). The brand is Rafters and I've been very happy with them. I've fished them hard for about a year and a half and just the other day my left boot leaked. This was due to my wore out wading boots having a huge hole in the side and I must have got some gravel in there. So I patched up the small hole. This problem was brought on by me having the crappy boots.

If I was going to go to Alaska, I would put out the big money on waders so that I was assured a good trip. You don't want to get up there and have your waders let you down. I've never heard anyone complain about Simms so that would be my choice.

Ok guys I think that I have narrowed it down to either the BARE supra 4mm that are pretty light or the BARE ultra light breathables.
They both run about the same price. But does anyone no if bear has a waranty?
Thanks

i WENT WITH THE STOCKING FOOT I hate the bootfoot they always seem to leak at the seam of the boot as far as cabelas warrenty goes I don't know but creekside angler gave an extra year warrenty on top of sims like I said before I'm not positive who makes cabelas gore-tex mine were 299$ plus boots belt and gaurds but if you do alot of hard walking or rowing you will stay nice and comfortable you don't have that heavy sagging feeling they are spendy but worth it
