I just got an 18' cuddy this week and I've decided to try it out at the PT Defiance area this weekend. However, I've never fished this area before. Does anyone have any reports, tips, info. Etc.?

Anything would be greatly appreciated!!

I would recommend trolling or mooching the slag pile and clay banks. Be prepared for lots of boats..fished it last sunday and there were hundreds of boats. If you do not have downriggers, just try running about 6-8oz. lead with a flasher and trailed by cut plug. We used this method to pick up a silver and king last sunday. If mooching be sure to keep off the bottom or you will not keep the dogfish off. I will be out there tomorrow as well..we'll be in the bayliner trophy, along with the other 10-15 trophies.
Good luck
Matt

Thanks Matt!!

Any news about the mouth of the Puyallup? I'm sure there will be quite a few Bayliner Trophys out there. My boat is a blue 1978 Marlin.....old but solid, I hope!! Anyway, good luck this weekend.

stopped at the boat house today to pick up some fresh bait, we were headed up to the hood canal bridge.
There was 2 guys and their 2 sons who just came in from the mouth of the Puyallup.
They had 5 kings 19-21 pounds and 2 silvers 6 and 7 pounds. Couldn't believe how fat the silvers were. This run is usually about 2-3 pounds/fish, Now if the river would clear up this shore bound angler could have some fun.

I landed a 36lb Buck on Saturday the 11th at the Pt. The bummer was that I didn't enter the derby and missed out on the 1000.00 first prize. It had a tag in it so I'm just waiting to hear from the State on which river system it was from.

Heywood,

How many pulls of line were you fishing....or did you mount your downrigger to the railing? Were you getting good action on your herring? How deep? laugh

For a 78 Marlin the Blue Goose (its new name)did pretty well. Fishing was slow in my opinion but it was my first try out there. Managed one King about 10 Lbs.

Did anyone else have any luck?
