This weekend's Fisherman's Heaven episode shows a jackpot marlin fishing tournament from Kona, Hawaii that took place this June. With almost 50 boats and $90,000 at stake, it's quite the adrenaline-filled tournament. The winning fish earned the "Maui Jim" boat over $57,000. Check it out on KVOS TV12, Sunday at 1:30 PM. Tournament Marlin fishing!!!! Thats sorta like watching a polo match. Those dudes put major money into entering one of those. Wonder what my wife would think if I told her out of the blue that I felt it was time to sell the house, cash in the retirement and hit the "Marlin circut" !!!! "Honest honey, I could win big money!!!.."

Hey B-Run, The way real estate is being gobbled up by the SO. Cal and Eastern crowd in Idaho your property should be worth big bucks!! Sell that one-bedroom shack in S.V., Cascade, or Sandpoint and buy yourself a nice 60-foot sportfisher, call it the "Bluewater B-Run" and get out the sunscreen! No Worries!

tvhosts, I'm not directing this at you, I dont know anything about the tournement you are talking about, but, I'm bothered a little with big money tournaments and I was just curious how other people felt.
I'm not bothered as much by the big game tournaments where they catch measure and tag the fish and release them, but in many instances they are catch and kill tournaments. Now, even bass tournaments they turn them loose, but there has to be a certain mortality rate that goes into them, and then what about spring time when they are spawning. You pull them off there spawing bed just to release them somewhere else in the lake miles away from where you caught them. Maybe the marlin are abuntant enough to support a tournament where the biggest ones killed. I know for Steelhead and Salmon Its good to turn loose the biggest ones to keep the gene pool strong, although this is tough to do sometimes, I would think that big game fish are the same.
Fishing to me is pleasure and bringing in the competition aspect brings out the worst in some people and cant be very good for the fish.
I maybe full of krap here but just thought I'd throw my two cents in. thanks

Not to worry...out of 45 marlin caught in the tournament, only one fish was killed.

We used to be on the Outdoor Channel. We opted out when they started charging what we thought was an unreasonable fee for airtime. To be able to afford to put our show on the Outdoor Channel, we'd have to charge our sponsors WAY more money. In return, our sponsors would expect (and rightly so) a lot more product "hawking" during the show. Pretty soon we'd have an "outdoor infomercial" like so many of the outdoor shows you see (watch an Outdoor Channel time sometime and see how much of it is show and how much of it is product advertising disguised as a show). We're always looking to expand our reach, but I don't think you'll see us on the Outdoor Channel again anytime soon. Thanks for the interest. Kevin www.fishermansheaven.com

Hey Kevin, It looks like it's time for the disclaimer for the show. "No ACTUAL fish were harmed in the making of this episode." Mark
