My school, Ridgfield High School in WA, has a senior project for all seniors. We have to put in 20hrs community service and write a 10pg minimum paper. I would like to work with the wildlife or outdoors somewhere. I have considered fish first, NW steelheaders, or maybe the game department. Please contact me ASAP as I need to find a mentor.

Another huge plus to what you have in mind is the A.H.E.,or advanced hunter program that the game dept puts on.If you hunt you might want to check into this. There are special seasons and permits available to people that complete the course.I believe that about 20 hours of volunteering on a project like your talking about is one of the bigger requirements.
Just so you know,I for one,and everybody else should really appreciate what your doing. Thank you.

Look in to organizing or just doing a riverside cleanup. Just float down our rivers and you'll see all the crap that lines the banks. Probably the best community service you could do. The fish will thank you for it! I'm sure you could write a novel about pollution.

Matter of fact, organize a riverside clean up and get us fine folks on this board to help! If it goes over well, we'll all write letters of recommendations to your teacher for you! wink

Parker, you bring up a good point. But, I know I have to have some sort of mentor to sign off and grade me on the hours I put in. That is why I need to get in contact with an organization. I don't think that letters to the school would work. frown I wish they did.

Okay, I only have a short time to decide whom I am putting in my hours with. I procrastinated, and now it is biting me in the butt. If I don’t pass the senior project I don’t pass HS. eek

Matt,
Since you like to fish, maybe some stream restoration work may be too your liking. Contact Cindy Young, Native Plant Steward, King County Surface Water Management. She is involved in stream/habitat restoration, as well as salvaging native plants from developement sites.
Another option.

Good luck
