I don't know if it is true or not, but being in the industry, and the sources I heard it from makes me worried.
The word is that since rapala has purchased Storm lures which make the wiggle wart that they are discontinuing all there steelhead and salmon colors like blue pirate, green pirate, ice pick, silver w/chartruse nose etc................ God I hope this is not true. I also heard from someone else that they might discontinue the wiggle wart altogether. I could not see that, why would they want to loose sales, I think that is highly unlikely. anyways just thought I would pass on what I have heard while out there seeing people.

Joe, I can think of 2 other times, years apart, that Storm or associates of some kind (like an ad agency) put out the same rumors (widespread). This was thought to be a trick marketing manuver to get guys to buy up a lot of the Wiggle Warts in stock around the country. It worked. And they weren't discontinued - haha. That takes up some individual's budget for plugs and then they don't buy as many of the competition's plugs (such as size 35 Hot Shots). Could this be the same typw of marketing ploy by an exec that moved along with the new ownership? Maybe not. But I won't be rushing to buy a bunch of them!

Yes, when I was in a store the other day, a guy was buying everything they had. Nothing even left for me.

You can relax a bit-- I have a copy of the 2002 Storm catalog, and some of the steelhead colors are still there. The pirates both are OK as are some of the fluorescent finishes. On top of that, Storm/Normark has rebuilt the Hot-n-Tot with a plastic lip. They've also added a new Wart called the Mid Wart that looks to be about the same size as the standard but with a shorter lip that will keeeps it from diving quite as deep.

However, any finish that was in the line can be ordered by a dealer-- the only problem is that he has to meet a minimum, which I think, is 500 pieces.

Joe may be right. I checked with a buyer
at Whites in Spokane on Wednesday and their
most rescent catalog reflects these colors are discontinued. So, if you see your favorite color out there, BUY'EM UP.

not buying that story, wiggle warts are the no.1 plug are the market, just look in the stores where salmon are present right now and there are none.i know that the herring bones have to be top sellers too.i have had several problems with wiggle warts in the last year, the biggest is they sink right out the the box, several on my shelf waiting to be sent back.i also think they are making the belly and tail rings to small as the split rings can't spin and have lost several fish to that problem(either lost hook or straightened split ring)fixed the problem by putting my own split rings on and new hooks.i really like the sounds of the mid wart that will be a steelie slammer as the wee steelie warts are useless. www.scottguides.com

Years ago they use to be tru right out of the box now if they float you spend more time getting them to run right than you do fishing with them. If you have the old ones keep them as they are worth having. frown frown

Saturday I was listening to a portland radio show called the outback angler, and the host interviewed a guy from Longview that claimed his company had the rights to start manufacturing the "old" warts. He said they would be out in time for winter steelhead season and they would start with 12 classic NW colors.

Anyone else hear this???

Sounds like a fish story to me, remeber the old coke new coke thing, well if the original manufacture quits making the product it usaully goes to **** when the new outfit takes it over so I would not count on the "new Wiggle warts" being anything like the old ones, I am sorry but that is the way it usaully is. eek eek
