Has anyone been over or fished the Satsop since the rains??? My partner and I are headed that way this afternoon to fish it and I was wondering if the Turnow Branch blew out the lower river. Thanks in advance.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh

Be nice if the river flows worked.

Still very low and clear. The recent rain did not fall down there. No change in the flow. All the fish I could see were dark. Need about 3" of rain down here!

I ran my small sled up river on Wednesday during the rain and wind. The river was still clear and I only managed to catch a ton of jacks, that I released. The ramp
below the highway bridge stinks, it has collapsed where it enters the water and
could cause problems for larger boats. rolleyes

What are the minumum and recommended flows for floating the Satsop, from the park down, etc. How long is the float and are what is the water like. Does anybody go from the highway down to the Chehalis in a drift boat-just wondering if if was worth the float. We need rain!

Just got back from floating the Satsop from the forks to the bgidge take out. Sorry to say is as dead as I have ever seen it this late. We just saw a couple of dark silvers roll. No new fish in sight. I do mean in sight since the river is so low and clear that you can see deep into the holes. Usually by this time you can see new fish moving. Not today. I am becoming increasingly concerned about this fishery.

Yo Paranoid it's still to early to have bad mojo. Today is only the 15th. I like to go when the river is on the rise, above at least 1,000-1,200 cfs. and rising. The best trips I have had are catching it just before it blows
casting 20 yards and in through the right tailout.

Third week in Oct. usually flicks the switch!

Let it rain...........But not to much!

FJ out.

FJ- I have to agree with you on your points. My concern is not just the silvers. I know they will come with the rain. In the past we do well fishing for kings. I have not seen 1 king roll in multiple trips. There are a couple of good looking new holes but most of the "old standbyes" that I always look forward to are mostly filled in. Oh well, new challenges to overcome. Good luck.

No kings....... Thats odd. I've seen low water conditions in many river systems this year and it sure does not appear that low water conditions have had much of a deturing effect on kings. I've heard that kings typically move at night.

Who knows maybe the King run will not materialize this year. I hope it does so as to give me a chance to better the 41# king I hit a few years ago on the Satsop.

FJ out.

That's a great fish. I too have battled fish in that class from this river. I am sure that you can appreciate my concern. The biologist from this region and I spoke and he also hopes to see more chinook show up. Lots of silvers at the hatchery but very few from the mouth on up. Let it rain...hard for a day or two...3 inches would be nice. Mabey then you and I will be able to re-live a memory or two..Good fishin' to you.

Noid, landing that 44" buck on 12# test from the bank was a test in patience and not allowing bad thoughts to seep into my mojo. It may have taken a half an hour to land but I learned alot about that fish during that time.
1) Large kings do not respond in a positive manor when overtensioned.
2) Just put enough pressure on the fish to keep the hook in it's mouth for as long
as it takes.
3) Let your buddy share in your accomplishment as the net man plays a large tactical role.

Well, I hate to burst everyone's bubble here. Been fishing the Satsop/Chehalis all week for my fishing vacation. The Satsop is VERY low and was a pain in the butt to float in my cataraft. We need more then a rain, we need a downpour for a day or so. The Satsop has good color, but needs to be a good foot higher. The fish are hitting if you know where to go (right Os smile ). But for most part most fish are being snagged that I've seen caught. You hit them with plugs or spinners long enough they'll hit (that'ss if they don't spook out of the hole first which Ii saw alot of).

It'll be a driftboats nightmare if we don't get ALOT of rain. Saw a guy with a brand new Lavro (which is only driftboat I saw on Satsop all week) scrape up his hull in at least 10 spots from Schaefer to Cooks.

Well, keep checking the waterlevels. There are fish in the river but they're very spooky. You'll have to work to get the fish but it can be done (I know first hand smile )

I guess it comes down to the last minute again.
