The river was up a little due to some light rain, so I thought I give it a shot. Besides, it was my B-day...
The fish I saw rolling near the Ben Howard launch were mostly on the dark side.
I did land one that was over 12lbs, and despite being a little dark, tasted great for my Bday dinner!
He hit a blue/nickle Kast Master (sp?). I wish I could say that I have the technique down, but I must have hit him in the head on the cast. He was on just as soon as the lure hit the water. Thought it was a humpy at first. Took about 2 mins to get him close, then he took off for another 20min battle. Very exicting on a light rod and 8lb line...

Chadk,
Thanks for the update. Happy B-D! :p Are you going to be able to scope out the river again on Friday? I'm thinking about taking my driftboat and a couple of guys up that way on Saturday. Any info would be appreciated (if I don't get hung or drawn and quartered over my last comments on the OP!! eek )
Mike

Fished the main body of the Sky across from where the mouth of the Wallace River dumps into the Sky. Was there for 3 hours and only saw 2 silvers role the entire time. The water had come up some with all the recent rain and the color was that of a diluted cup of coffee, but for the most part the river is in good shape. I was surprised to see so few fish in the main body since I live in Gold Bar I had stopped at the hatchery before heading out and it was loaded with Silvers. smile

There are more coming that way, too. Fished the a.m. near the Cadman pit in Monroe. Landed a 10 pounder (a little gray, but my first silver of the year so had to mark it down), then a 15lb. buck right before I was going to pack it in.

The water level is NOT conducive to easy fighting of fish from the bank. Can't believe I didn't lose him in some of the tree limbs and boulders.

Red corky and pink yarn, by the way, about 32" of leader, and a little membrane left from a wad of roe. Got NO hits with a fresh piece of bait, numerous with very little left. Even in this dirty water they seem to prefer a subtle approach.

Have a great weekend, guys!
