Name your game, and I bet you can score on the Kalama. We fished sunday and my sister got her first fish!! She nailed a chrome bright late run chinook.
Monday we did the same float and we got 1 absolutley chrome bright steelhead. We also got 2 very fresh silvers.
Tonight we went out and hooked 7 fish, All steelhead. I hooked 2 of the prettiest little wild steelhead you have ever seen. My sister nailed a hot little late summer run. Little weasel boy Adam laugh Landed a big late run wild summer steelhead. My brother-in-law and I each lost a fish. I was dissapointed in the trip, The damn steelhead clobbered our stuff before the silvers could get to it.
This morning a couple guys went into the store and bought some custom colored cerise Wiggle Warts and took them out and kicked some silver butt!!! They came back and bought some more. In all they ended up getting 7. The late run silvers are starting to show up. When the nets come out of the Columbia the fishing is going to be hot.

Sounds like fun, thanks for the report. That's better than it's been on the North Fork, it's water is running warmer than a bathtub. It sucks having a dam fed river, once the lake rolls over and the thermokline flips the warm water goes to the bottom and the cold to the top. Then all you get is warm water until it runs all out.. Until then the fish aren't biting up there.

We were boating it from Mahaffeys down to Modrow. The water came up a little but its starting to drop down to where it was. I went down 4 times this week with 4 eople in the boat everytime. I only had to walk the boat through ne spot.
We fished it today and I hit a steelie and the wife got a silver. We didnt find any fish until we got down to the trap. There was a bunch of silvers in the next hole below the trap. We didnt have enough time to go all the way to Cam Kalama, If we did I bet we would have got more fish.
Pray for more rain and hope the gill netters dont them all. 2 of the fish we got this week had net marks on them.

Willierower, have you heard anything about the mouth of the Kalama? Is there enough water to get down there? Last time I was there the water at the launch looked awful shallow.

BW,
Last I heard(yesterday) the mouth was full of silvers. Im not too sure about gettig a boat down there. I have never tried it. If you are using a drift boat or another knd of smaller boat Im sure it wouldnt be a problem as long as the tide isnt too low.

Are you guys talking about launching down Fisherman's Loop at the ramp down there and going downriver toward the mouth? When I was there two weeks ago, a few boats were pulling out there. One was just launching, but they weren't going downriver, they went upriver a few hundred yards and anchored. Then they proceeded to cast something toward a pile of brush and jerk as if trying to intentionally snag fish. Don't know if that's what they were trying to do or not. Anyway, I walked downriver past that new bridge and everything looked fine down to there. I've never boated the river so I don't know what it's like below that. But, I did go down to that Fisherman's Club or whatever it's called (right across the Columbia from Trojan) and looked upriver to where I figured the mouth of the Kalama was and seen a pretty big set of sandbars out there. Maybe not quite where the mouth is though, I don't know. Hope that helps a little.
