My wife has me talked into going up the second week of November and I managed to weasel a day of fishing out of it. What would be my best bet and what guides, if any, should I call? I'm looking to fish salmon, steelhead or both.

You could check in to bankfishing the Capistrano River, accessed up around the sound from North Vancouver a ways. If you want to boat fish with a guide there is an excellant one who posts on here, and fishes the lower Frazer and it's tribs. Excuse me for forgetting his name off hand - I hope he or others that have recommended him see this thread.

BTW, I love Vanc., B.C.! Just a great and beautiful big city. To impress your wife, go over the bridge by Stanley Park to N. Vanc. and take her up the Grouse Mountain Gondola for dinner. The views of the saltwater sounds, mountains, and city are awesome! I recommend going at a time that with some daylight viewing opportunity and on into the darkness of night when the lights of the big city and suburbs are a sight to behold.

RT and RichH. The Guides name is Vic Carrao, He is a top rate guide and genuinely good guy. His Service is called STS Guide Service and his phone # is (604) 671-3474 or you can email him at sts@guidebc.com. His knowledge of the rivers in the lower mainland (especially the Harrison) is outstanding.

Rich,

The river RT is referring to is actually the Capilano. Not, in my opinion, worth fishing, but it doers get good returns and it is in the city. I also recommend Vic www.guidebc.com for the Fraser River and the Fraser Valley rivers. He's on the water 300 days a year so he knows whats up.

By the second week of novermber the Salmon runs are almost done...there is some late fish entering the Vedder, and a couple smaller streams in the area recieve late Coho returns, none of which I will mention here wink You won't be able to fish for Steelhead as the early winter fish are still a month away.

You might want to try Sturgeon fishing (all C&R) the Fraser with a guide. It's prime time sturge fishing right now, and with your exchange rate a guide will cost you very little.

Good Luck

Matt

Took your advice and booked a trip with Vic. Spent the day fishing for both salmon and sturgeon and caught a ton of chums. Spent 3 hours chasing sturgeon and got 3 in the boat & here's the photographic proof.

If you're up that way, I recommend fishing with Vic. Thanks Vic for a great time!

Thanks RT and others who recommended our services.
Rich, hope you enjoyed yourself, I know i did. The Coho showed in better numbers the next day, we hooked 14 and a bunch of chum to end the day.
I look forward to getting that show info and taking you up on the offer of fishing the Northwest.

PS. Great site, always wanted to put up a disscussion board on our site, just didn't think I had the time to look after it.
Tight lines

Thanks for the kind words RT. I have saved this site under favorites so I'll check in once and a while to see whats up. If you guys ever need info on our area feel free to ask.

All the runs were late this year so we are having an extended season. Usually most of the salmon fishing is over by now and we are just fishing sturgeon. As you can see by Rich's pic's, there's still some pretty nice fish around.

Until next time.
Vic
