The Satsop is running at 2500 as of Monday nite and will be definitly out soon, if it is not already. They have posted a flood watch for many rivers on KIRO. Flotilla III may be out also, unless we change rivers. The Satsop will be puking mud, but I have caught fish when this happens, by fishing the seam.

That would be a strong dose of irony if it is blown out on the moved date for F III. rolleyes Let's hope for only light showers and a lower freezing level this week will put it right by Saturday!

Obviously you guys do not know the satsop very well, once the rain stops like it has now, it only takes a day or two at the most to fish. I am actually going to go fish the eastfork this pm because it will already be in fishable shape, it should be incredible by the weekend.

I stopped by the Satsop/Hwy12 boatlaunch at about 3:45pm today, and the river was a lot higher than it was on Saturday. I saw 4 fish finnning in the shallows across the river after about 5 minutes of sightseeing.

The boat launch down near the confluence of the Satsop and the Chehalis had a higher water level, but the Chehalis was running clear. I taked with the fish checker, and of the 8 boats, only 2 had caught fish. All were fishing below the Satsop, and complained of muddy water.

Seacat, the area where you and I had crossed the river was about 4 feet deeper. The point upriver from where you caught your jack was submerged.

This river drops FAST! I haven't fished it too much, but I have hunted near it for years. Thursday will show a much lower CFS count, probably in the 1200-1500 range. I already saw more catchable fish today in the 5 minutes that I was there.

I'll check it if I get any more opportunities this week. Saw LOTS of silvers jumping in the boat basin at Westport. They were a litlle more colored up, but none were red, just a bit green.

Eric,
The number of people I heard today was around 50. Don't know what the split will be between the D boaters on the Satsop and Sledheads on the Chehalis.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh

Hey Superfly, I do know the Satsop, I have fished it for many years, since I was a little one at that. It will drop in fast enough, but only if the rains let up, and the forcast is for more rain on Wednesday and then more for the weekend. When I say Satsop, I really am not talking about the area around the S curves which do run much clearer than the main river. If it is running dirty, I know exactly where I will be fishing it, and we may be parked next to each other in the "hole". Hope to see you on Saturday!

PS I would love to see it flowing in the 1500 range!

All I am going to say is that fishing has been slow for the 90% guys wink

Nothing worse than seeing a sled try to bully his way up through and past Cook. Keep it in the lower end sledders. mad

The cats I saw this past Saturday on it was just a cool cool sight. Must have been 6 or more all lined up and fishless. Makes me happy to know that I left mine at home and banked it with better success.

If you're one of those catters I was talking about, shoot me an email.

Heyall,
Who the heck died and made you king of the River????? I didn't know there were laws that said where we could or couldn't go on the Satsop. If there are let me know, I've been breaking them for 20 years.

I can't quite remember his name, but he'd be that guy I took his crown from.

You guys would be fuct if I drifted with my helicopter with the pontoon skids. There's no law against that either rolleyes I bet it would piss a sledder off too and it makes it really tough for the bankies to cast lead at. I wish I had $30K so I could pull plugs all day too. :p

Hey King of the river, If the river is punched, you will find me with my sled above Cook creek. That is because with all that water there is only a few places that are fishable and that is with a boat. Running a sled at these times is like running a sled on the bigger rivers, because it is now a bigger piece of water. I can stay out of others ways in water like this, but often, there is very little bank or river traffic, most have come to the river and turned around and went home. A little common sense will go a long way on smaller rivers such as the Satsop. There is a time and place for all boats on these rivers. I bet that the same can be said of certain zipperlip creeks, and rivers that used to only be reached by hiking in, that are now inhabited by pontoon boats. We can all fish together as one, as long as we use our brains....lets have fun fishing and not dissing each other.
There have been many times when I have been in our driftboat and been embarressed to be a sled owner, when I heard the noise of a sled in waters that obviously were not meant for such a vessel. I know the rules of river etiquette, and postings like ours can be meant to teach some of the uneducated or plain ol rude fishers. wink
