The Kalama is HOT!!!!
The river really turned on today. Yesterday it was blown out. The water today was dropping and green.
My wife and I landed 11 silvers this afternoon. She got 6 of them throwing a custom colored cerise Wiggle Wart. I got 3 on the wart and 2 drift fishing eggs. And yes the wife outfished me. She hooked a total of 9, I just hooked 6.
I saw at least 40 silvers caught today. My brother-in-law and his friend hit the canyon and got 10 between the 2 of them. I saw one silver caught that wieghed a solid 20 lbs.
On tuesday I took a couple guys down the river when it was blown. One guy, Dan is from Alabama and had never caught a salmon. He and his brother and I jumped in my driftboat. Even though the water was murky and on the rise we hooked 3. Dan was the only guy to land one, A nice buck silver of about 7 lbs. This was his first salmon.
Today he and his brother were back at. The got a dozen between them. Dan got one that was over 15 lbs. Not too bad for a bama redneck.

WR - I'm planning on being there in the morning. I'll give you a call this evening and check in at the store to see what's happening. I'm not sure whether to start in the lower river or head upstream.

Is there any special technique that you use to work those warts, Willie and NWRiverbabe? Just pitch and retrieve? Do you ever lose any on the bottom. I seem to have a problem with that in larger areas like Drano Lake. I'd probably have a heck of a hard time in a smaller river with them. confused

I just pitch them and retrive slowly. Keep the rod tip low to the water. And if you hang it up, just throw it soe slack. 99% of the time they will float out of the snag. We also remove the trebles and put a 4 bead bead chain on the belly eye and attach a 1/0 siwash to that. The siwash hooks in keeping the snags down. It also helps hook short striking fish, plus you land more with the single hook.
Also casting cross current and letting the plug swing across works well also. If the plug oesnt dive deep enough when its swing, just slowly reel it in.
I hope this helps.

Great deal on the kalama, they've also showed in the lewis check my thread (lewis river). But you'll have better bank access on the kalama and better biters also due to the colder water.

fish4steel,
Im in Oregon right now working. called up to get a river report.
The river is in excellent shape. The bite has slowed in the lower section of the river. They are getting fish in the canyon. The bulk of the fish are up there. If it rains again there should be another big bunch of fish.
People are now starting to float the river.

Thanks, Willierower. I'll try it if I get a chance to before the runs over this year. If not there's always next year.

Concerning the silver run next year in the individual rivers, I was told by more than one person that they had heard that early indications show the run wont be very strong. I also heard from them the Springer run next spring in the rivers will be lower than average. Gosh I hope that's not true. Anybody else hear this? Earlier this year, I remember reading in the paper that we should have good spring returns for the next few years at least.
