so this time I am on a river that is at least 6 hours from the peninsula and I am walking down the trail when I see a bear print in the mud, as I walk down to the river there are dead fishies half eaten all over the bank. how many of you have seen evidence of blackie eating salmon here in washington?

I was out fishing on Saturday and saw some bear tracks along the bank of a small river. Didn't see any evidence of them eating salmon. Made me wish I brought a gun when I saw the tracks though.

I've seen evidence a lot closer to town, and also cougar sign as well.

I know it's a good spot if it smells like fish and there isn't a boyfriend beating on my back. wink

I saw some bear evidence the other weekend in the back of my truck cool

I haven't seen to much bear activity around the rivers, I tend to see more in areas with berries. I think they like doughnuts more than fish wink

Hey Os, you know where he's from - and "where he's at". laugh jk

Our bears in WA/OR eat salmon too. Just not as much a staple in their diet as up north, for obvious reasons. In some of the popular AK/BC fishing spots the black bears have learned to hide in the bushes until you hook a fish and then they go steal your hooked fish, as easy prey. Unlike with seals, I think it's better to let them dine. laugh
