Just wondering what some of you guys who do a lot of bobber fishing think the best bobber rod is. I am looking at either getting a Loomis or Lamiglas, so perspectives on both would be appreciated.

The best way to go is to have a rod built. I have a 12 foot Loomis(1445) spinning rod I had built that I use in the winter. I have a 13 foot Loomis custom built for summer fish and recently picked up a 15 foot rod for summer runs. St.Croix has some 10 1/2 footers that are decent float rods but I prefer longer rods.

TH 1263 and 1264 rods! 10.5' 6 to 12 or 10 to 17. Get casting as you can freespool with much more control than a spinning reel. Drawback is more weight and bigger bobber. Spinning rods cast light weight further.If you have to have a Loomis the 1263 is it in GL3 and Travis can whip it up in any config you want! No brainer TH over Lami! The only thing Lami has over TH is a little faster warrenty. But if breaking rods is a problem maybe look into UGLY STIX!!!!LOL

Depends on the river that you are fishing .....a 12' rod would be hard to use on most of the rivers I fish here in oregon. I believe that most importantly you need a rod with enough lift to mend your line all the way across the river and have enough backbone to set the hook from any where the bobber sinks. I am not fishing any more than 20'-25' away from my feet. If I were fishing say the cowlitz or lewis which are bigger rivers I might opt for a longer rod. Also I would say if the rod feels good in your hand and you feel confident in it's construction buy it. I fish only IMX loomis Drift rods but I fish a STR1082s built in GL2 as a bobber rod as there is no real need for sensitivity in a bobber rod as it is a visual game. All my backbouncing rods are Berkley 15-50s. Dont get hung up on a name, There are quite a few quality rod builders on thissite as well in the area that build awesome rods .......sometimes better than factory rods at a better cost. I am very passionate about bibber fishing as you can tell so I appologise if you think i may be rambling .........Tight Lines-John

Floats rods have been used in our area for many years. Most of the local anglers using levelwinds prefer a fast action rod like a G loomis 1263 10'6 or 11'3. My favorite is the IM6 graphite but now a days you have to go with GL3. Sage also makes a nice rod but a bit soft for my liking. Fast Action allows good sensitivity and long distance hook sets.

The reason for the long rods is to keep the line out of the water.You get much better control over your bobber and line if you keep your rod tip high and line dry.

Our warranties (Rainshadow-- TH Rods) are much faster than Loomis or Lamiglas since we stock all of the maor models.
The delay comes when we have to senda rod to Loomis or Lamiglas.. but Lamiglas was great the last warranty we sent in.

I would have to back up big Bob D and put a vote in for the GL3 1263c, 8-12#. I've been using this rod for 5 years and it's adaptability to all forms of float fishing and bottom bouncing in different rivers is awesome. Not to mention you can play anthing from a small 6lb summer steelhead to a 39# Fraser King and not feel over or undermatched. The only draw back is since it's a baitcaster, light presentations with a float can be a little tough to throw out there, unlike a spinning setup. The long size of the rod can also be a pain in the ass with overhanging trees and brush.

The only thing I noticed about Loomis rods that I don't like is that it seems the ceramic eyelet inserts pop out real easy and the reel seats have a bad habbit of developing hairline cracks around the bottom where the reel slips in. Lamiglass has beefy reel seats that can take a beating!

I'm sure though that alot of my Loomis problems are do to my rough fishing style on rods, just ask Bob D

I fish what is called a Tillamook Pig Stick, it is a 9 ft StrikerII, that was special made for bobber fishing fall kings in the Tillamook area. Gawd I love this rod, and am working on trying to aquire a second as they ar no longer made. This rod is light but will allow you to set a hook, cross their eyes and drag a 40lb bright King out of the stumps and still have plunty of backbone left. This my favorite bobber rod, now in its 14th year, a few new guides but still strong and still catching..........

If I was to buy a bobbe rod for this kind of fishing I would buy a Keni king or Killer.
