about my soon to be 4 year old daughter. She and I went out on the river this morning. She loves to go fishing with Daddy (I hope it lasts!). She has caught panfish and bass, but today, it was for salmon. She has been asking me when I will take her fishing in the "river boat" (drift boat)- needless to say, Mom was not too hot on this idea. Well, to make a long story short, she got a 17.5 pound silver, with lots of help, and then an 11.5 pound silver, with dad only holding the rod! I'm not sure who is more proud of the fish!! I saw a thread a while ago about taking the kids fishing; wish I had a digital camera so I could share it with y'all. As the Mastercard ad says, it was priceless. Thanks for letting me take up your time. And to the guy in the drift boat beside me who shared it with us, thanks for the thumbs up!! Nicole thought that was great!

Have you taught your daughter to let out a big "FISHON!" yet? Nice piggies.

I have a four yr. old that I have considered taking down the river with me, but I'm a little nervous. I guess a real tame stretch wouldn't hurt?? I haven't run it past her mother yet. She loves being out on the lake, and rivers are way cooler than lakes, so I know she would love it.

local_hooker....no wonder her mom doesn't trust you with a moniker like that! Kidding of course.. On the serious side, Nicole had a floation jacket on (DUH!!) and it was just the two of us. I knew a nice slot very close to the launch, so we were not really drifting; just anchored and plugs out. If you want to know where I was, shoot me an off-line e-mail, I would be more than happy to share it with you' maybe we can hook up with side-by side kids and hookem'

Gooose, no I have not taught her her old man's loud mouth habits...might have something to do with the fact that SHE had the hot plug. With the guys, you know I'll sound off (and she will learn I'm sure..she has already learned Dad's foul mouth, naturally at the most inopportune (sp?) times

My 4 year old (now 5) caught 2 nice winter steelhead on bobber and jigs last winter. She goes with me everywhere. Good lifejackets and common sense are the key to a safe and enjoyable time. I know how proud you are ,My daughter caught both fish right in front of a couple of guys who had been there for two hours . They told us she could give it a try and Wammo x2 . I dont know who was happier me or her, the two dudes ran my camcorder for me so when we can feed video here I'd love to show it. Keep taking her, I can't hardly get out the door w/o mine.----John

Headin down there friday for a good day of bustin pigs from a boat. Won't see me up at the barrier with that bunch unless I show up to watch and have a good laugh. I only fish crowds in August and September and only cause the fishings worth the annoyance. Sounds like you were enjoyin a crowd the other day though :p .
If I do spend a few extra days down there though I've got a hankering to visit the Grays and Naselle Rivers where I got steelies #1 and #2 many many years ago.

Gooose, I was out in a sled on the Cow with a buddy last week free drifting eggs below BC. We ended up with three large bright Silvers and three winter runs. Weren't many boats out that day, it was nice out and the fish were in a friendly mood until hooked that is.

FJ Actually that's what I expected you were doin. Thats the kinda fish I'm hopin a certain someone is gonna put me onto. Me I just got in from fishin the snaggiest most gear eatin river on the OP. You probably don't need any nore clues. River was in nice shape and uncrowded.
Socalled "Best of the Best" got hosed twice by steelies . D@mm things really love them alder rootwads. Was a nice peaceful day though and I'll take it.

Gooose, I'm familiar with the stickiest. I was also out on a smaller OP river and was stunned by the crowd. I went out to get a little solitude and was heartbroken when I saw all the cars.
Saw some nice Silvers and Steel taken. Myself, I did not seem to have the Mojo today unless you count that 16" Dolly. I might have to start going weekdays to get some P & Q.

Thats great Goose. Had my three year old out on the boat four or five time. He does great. Just make sure he has on his "boat coat" and that the rivers are fairly tame. Got a buddy that usually goes that Maverick loves to help me keep him sitting if I have to get on the oars alittle. He sure loves going though its a great feeling

I've been taking my grandson with me in my boat since he was '2-half' and he's seasoned now at 4.
We're raising him so he gets a lot of fishing time in.

Took him to Sekiu on three occasions this past summer and he managed to record 16 Coho on his catch record card with a little help from Nammie and Pop.

He's always out in the yard with his 'Snoopy' rod trying to hit the dog with his practice plug.
The kid's absolutely HOOKED on fishing and watches as many fishing shows on TV as Nammie will let him (and me)

Keep on fishing with them and they'll be in much less trouble later on.

Rainycity, When the rod is doubled over and the reel is spoolin', yeah, I guess "FISH-FISH-FISH!!" is a little loud at a distance of two feet Got the fish though, didn't we? Now if I can just teach SHUTUPandFISH to stop using that long distance release method :p
