I agree with you I go fishing to have fun and relax. Been meaning to mention this for a while, have you noticed people are cranky lately. My buddy and I go fishing and we are talking and telling jokes and laughing at the stupid stuff we do like backlash because your hook caught that tree limb behind you. I have noticed if you are having a good time and laughing people look at you all grumpy like hey "this is fishing you are not supposed to be having fun". People just need to chill on the rivers and have a good time. Usually, not always, good communication will solve it. In rock boys case maybe not, but if I start getting into fights at the river or even confrontations it will not be so relaxing a hobby anymore it will be more like driving home in rush hour then fishing.

Perhaps another angle would be.... Walk over to his side and calm him, tell him everything is gonna be alright--pat him on the shoulder and head. Ask him if you can see his id tag from the institution. And if he says like in Cartman's voice "ahh I've been fishing here when I was knee high_biatch" in a comforting voice and arm around his shoulder say "wow how amazing!! That means your big dumb phuckin head would have been right about there"

Casting sequence and order is the key to fishing in crowded situations. You might have to forfeit a cast here and there, or educate a guy beside you, but it's not brain surgery. The guy below always casts first, then you, then the guy above you. Cast on a 45 degree angle upstream in line with the other guys casts, don't try to cover the whole river in one cast. Drift one to two guys below you, pick up and repeat. Talk to the guys beside you, smoke a fattie with them and have a good time.

This sequence only works in groups of around five, so if you're on the margin between two groups it can suck. Fishing in crowds is a reality, like BK said, so instead of picking fights use common sense and deal with the situation.

Now if the rivers will just hold until tomorrow, I'm going to hit the Green in the morning (or maybe the Sky, or maybe the Snoqualmie - life is rough!!)
