There is a virus going around that spreads itself by going into your mail and replying to already read mail. There is nothing in the subject line that would give you a clue that it may be a virus. I recieved 2 infected e-mails, In both of them the subject was just a reply to something I had written. Both e-mails were from members of this BB who were infected.
If you receive an email that is a reply and has an attachment, delete it.

You use Outlook or Outlook Express, don't you? And you have that preview pane open in the bottom right of your Window so you don't have to open the messages.

Shame shame shame shame shame. That Outlook stuff is the CRAP! I've received that same virus every night this week and Pegasus Mail doesn't even bat an eye at it.

Sorry Dave, but it's not the software that is crap. It's the users.

It doesn't matter what email program you are using. If you choose to open up an infected attachment, you *will* get a virus. If you choose not to use, or not to keep your anti-virus software updated, you will eventually get a virus. It's just that easy.

Two rules for ALL of you to live by:

Rule #1 - Make sure your anti-virus software is up to date. Don't have anti-virus software? Probably about time you got some and kept it up to date.

Rule #2 - Never trust or open an email attachment unless you specifically requested it. It doesn't matter who it came from. If you didn't request it, don't open it!

Virus problems solved....until something *really* nasty and mean comes along. Nimbda was a good one. We're still battling that virus! (Note: Following Rule #1 would have prevented our little Nimbda problems now).

You are very right about the user problem, Parker. To this day I still hear people use the rationale "I only open attachments from people I know", which is how most virii are distributed these days. It's even worse from people who have a habit of prefacing 90% of the email that they send out with those hated letters "FW". I already have one person who forwards crap to me all the time filtered so if the letters FW appear in her subject line that it automatically gets roundcanned.

These most recent email worms (like W32.Badtrans.B@mm) specifically spread with the help of the Outlook user address books, so if you don't run Outlook you can still receive the virus and become infected if you open the attachment. You just won't spread it.

Owning virus protection software isn't enough. with hudreds of new viruses being discovered monthly the virus definitions from July 2000 aren't going to help you when the latest Nimbda, SirCam, Code Red, or any other worm hits. And you'll lose data someday and kick yourself in the butt for not keeping up-to-date. Update at LEAST monthly, preferrably weekly. The more often you update the quicker the downloads are. Normally just a couple minutes.

If you have any questions about which virus software to buy, how to update your virus patterns, or anything else like that go ahead and either post it in this thread or email me and I (and other geeky anglers) will help out.

Yeah, but your Internet porn looks like crap on a TV.

It's like those Epson print ads. On a WebTV you can see that she's naked. On a computer monitor you can see every emu feather. laugh

Cubicle my arse, I moved my desk into the server room last week. I like what the 45F room does to my nipples.

I got a serious question now. Can you get a virus from just opening an email or are the virus's only in attachments? I'm pretty dumb when it comes to computers. Thanks.

BTW, Dave, my t*ts are floppy and loose. I've always dreamed of having perfect, hard pecs. And 24-hour-a-day erect nipples! I know the colder temps will firm 'em up for a short while, but whatever will I do when I finally pick up a lady friend and take my shirt off in front of her in a WARM room? Any suggestions? Anyone?... Thanks again.

KB-

AuntyM is right. If you have the preview pane open in Outlook (bottom right corner) it automaticaly opens the attachment as you view the docoment. I believe that Outlook also gives you the ability to set your security higher so it won't do that, but as I dislike trying to find stuff on their website I'll make you look for it.

Now, I may not usually have much info on fishing successes or techniques, but I sure can help you with maintaining erect nipples. According to
this article , if you spray them with hairspray you will keep them harder longer. The article also goes into WHY you'd want that, so it's good reading. CAUTION! Do NOT attempt this on any other appendage, especially while smoking!!!

willie-

If you weren't typing your posts on your TELEVISION you would have noticed that you mentioned something about being in a bat with me and Y'all. I told you that the BatBoat was a SECRET!

Unfortunately I got the virus yesterday and after a lot of fooling around managed to get rid of it this morning. All you need to do is go to this site and download the virus tool for w32badtrans@mm and run it. Works really slick and it only takes about ten minutes to get rid of the nasty bug.

Thanks for the info (about the email virus stuff). I forgot to mention that I mostly use Hotmail for my email-can you get a virus opening mail through there? I use outlook express, somtimes, though.

As far as the hair spray trick, I read the article DJ posted the link to, and immediately decided to try it. Between yesterday and today, I've used up a full bottle of hairspray and still have loose nips. Any "tips or tactics" on how to make it happen, RT? Maybe I will have to go with implants-not too big though. confused
