When the DAWGS tied for the National Championship - Duck's chances?

I can't recall which year UW tied for the football national championship - I think it was to Miami?
Well, I'm not a big quack fan but I am a fan of the NW schools of the Pac 10. (OK, in order: Beavs, Ducks, Dawgs, & Cougs - all by small margins). So I am a bit twinged by the lame computer hexed BCS pick of No. 4 Nebraska to meet No. 1 Miami in the Rose Bowl BCS championship game!
The final season national rankings by both the coaches and media polls had the Ducks No. 2. No. 3 Colorado crushed the 'huskers 62-36. So, a couple Q's for you guys in the know:
- Whazzup with the BCS bullsh!t?
- If possible, what would it take for the Ducks to eek out a National championship, or co-championship like the Dawgs did? Seems to me if both Miami and Nebraska play mediocre ball with the 'Huskers winning a close low scoring game against the 'Canes (or a tie), and if Oregon came up with a 'buffalo hide' in a big win over Colorado (I know the Buff's are hot, like the Beavs were last year, but I said 'if'), they could be voted the champion or co-champion with the Rose Bowl winner.

It was the 1991 Huskies. The deal is this: If you play in the Pac-10 and you give the BCS/AP/CNN Coaches ANY reason to exclude you, they will. UW blew their chance last year by losing to UO, and UO blew their chance this year by losing to Stanford. When all else is equal (meaning one loss), the Pac-10 team WILL get screwed unless it's the media darling USC or UCLA. If you like the Dawgs, Cougs, Beavs, or Ducks, then you'd better hope they go without losing. The only reason UW shared the titles with Miami in 1991 was that they went 12-0 and beat a tough Michigan team in the RB. That might not have even happened if the BCS was alive then. Man, I hate the BCS.

Thanks Dan. You share the obvious opinion of the BCS's lack of respect for the Pac 10. Really unfortunate that politics enters this scene too. I say PLAYOFFS!
You didn't mention your thoughts on my second question. If that hypothetical scenario were to happen do you think the Quacks would have a chance at the championship? Or would the same set of politics take out all chances?

To add a little to what Dan said.
If the only loss UO had was to Miami this year(if they had played them) I think that Miami would still be ranked ahead of UO. Just due to the extreme lack of respect for the left coast. I think that the PAC-10 is continually the toughest conf, I mean look how many teams were ranked in the top 25.
Anyway, what can you do? I guess just have to go 12-0??
By the way, not a big UO fan but I would love to see them had the Candycane's their A$$!

Back to the 91 season, if memory serves me the Dawgs also beat Nebraska in Lincoln. Its hard to believe that you beat all the Pac-10 teams, Nebraska, and Michigan only to share the Nat. Champ. with a team that plays Miami's schedule.
I may be a Dawg but I always support the NW teams when they aren't going against my boyz. Got a feeling that the Ducks would have to win by 70 and have the 'Cane/Husker game be low scoring and very sloppy to have any chance.

In order to Win the "National Championship" you have to be the best team in the country.......Go Buffalo's Oregon has a good record, but come on they aren't the best team in the country......just their own State ..........Os

For once, someone in the national media gets it... http://espn.go.com/ncf/columns/fowler_chris/1292633.html Even though Miami is better than half of the NFL teams this year, the PAC-10 Champions, the Oregon Ducks who lost 1 game by 1 point to the 11th ranked team, still deserved a shot at the title on the field! Nebraska didn't win their conference and got BLOWN OUT by Colorado. Go figure... I'm with Fowler on this one, B-C-Mess!!! Os - next you'll be saying that the Bronco's are the best team in the NFL...ha ha ha ha. I think that there is a shortage of oxygen in Colorado. This causes strange physiological reactions... :p P.S. I married a Bronco fan, so I have an insiders perspective... [ 12-11-2001: Message edited by: seacat ]

RT,
Virtually no chance of a UO Co-championship. If NU beats UM, it won't matter how ugly it is, the sports writers will claim it was UM's incredibly tough D.
I would rather have seen a UO/UI matchup in the Rose Bowl....two 10-1 teams, teams from the Pac-10 and Big-10....like it SHOULD be.

It doesn't matter what team or what sport, we live on the wrong coast in there eyes. The east gets all of the media attention there for to get any respect your team needs to go undefeated. This BCS system is total BS get the winners of each division into a play off and then see who finishes on top.

You can take the C out of BCS and that pretty much sums it up for the Ducks or any Pac-10 team in the future. As long as BS is around, the Pac-10 will be screwed every time. The good news is I think the two best teams in the country are playing each other....in the Fiesta Bowl.

Why is it that everyone else in the world can see the faults in these systems that they come up with? It seems the people who make these decisions are totally oblivious? Just once I would love to see the PAC 10 get the props they deserve, no matter whom it is, although my blood does run purple and gold. It should be UO and UM in the Rose Bowl! Osprey, Oregon has a good record, but come on they aren't the best team in the country......just their own State Ah, Os ... The Ducks are also the best team in the NW! And in the Pac 10! And ranked No. 2 in the country! Hurts your soul doesn't it. Let me rub a little deserved salt into the quack wounds to your inner being - remember all your promises of the spanking the Dawgs with Tui were going to give the Ducks last season? Then the Ducks just pounded the Dawgs up worse than the wining score indicated! Ha ha ha ha ha. Ever see anything other than an utterly biased post by Os concerning Pac 10 ball or jigs? Or whatever? No.
