I've posted many tips to help fishing success. I will give you another good suggestion. ...

I just watched this new video by STS writer/BB member Bill Herzog (Real Spoonman) and Nick Amato of STS. It is primarily on the best techniques of drift fishing for steelhead. But it is also full of great Olympic Peninsula river and mountain scenery. It is well produced and has a pro caliber narrator that enhance this how to video.

As long as these two top notch fishermen have been catching steelhead (many years) it is plain to see that they haven't lost any enthusiam over hooking one. That's one of the best aspects of this outdoor recreation - it's fun and excitement are forever enduring.

It's not easy to cover both the basics and many of the intricacies of steelhead drift fishing in a video, but these guys have done it! Their film and explanation of reading holding water was particularly well done. One of the things I noticed while watching this is I now often use a little too much lead when I drift fish, rather than using just enough to tap bottom every few feet and keep the lure/bait up off the bottom a little more in the strike zone - don't fish lazy; change your lead often. The underwater film of this in action is great. And of fighting big Oly Pen fish too. The many intricacies covered can make a big difference in your catch rate. It is full of them and you will need to watch it more than once to take it all in. Take notes! Well worth getting for a keeper in your video library (available thru the url below or thru STS magazine).

Ive been known to use a little too much lead on ocassion myself. tapping every foot or so instead of every few feet.

That might be why I hit more fish at the end of my drift when you have more drag and your tapping bottom less.

Thanks RT,that is a big must have! Herzog Really has pinned down how a fish thinks.I have had more of what he has told me or what I have read of his become fact or real life, than anybody elses teachings. To many times I have had his way of thinking be opposite of mine and found his way of thinking right and mine wrong! To have the video setup and made on the penninsula is a xtra bonus!!!I like giving his books to kids that are interested in fishing, now I'll have video to give!Off to buy a video

Steelhead Drift Fishing Video

My nephew and I watched it Friday night. Good video and worth the price. Like RT said, good fishing and scenery - hard to beat.
