try adding 'gas line anti freeze' (Schucks) to your tank. It has a chemical that absorbs water and allows it to be burned. Another suggestion is to put 'gas extender' in when you are going to let it sit for awhile. smile

check you vent for your tank to make sure its not in a spot to get water in it while your running or turning the boat and make sure rain water wont run into it, also check your fuel tank cap to make sure its good. has it always done this or did it just start doing it. ?

Where are you buying your gas? The only times I've had troubles with water in fuel is when I got crummy gas at the station. If you are getting amounts of water that are more than your water separator can handle, this suggests a pretty high volume source, which implies that the fuel being pumped in has the water in it. I try to make sure that I'm buying gas from a high volume outlet.

Are you getting any gas in the bilge at the same time? That would imply a tank leak, that could be a 2 way (water in, gas out). Sending unit gasket might be a place to look for that.

Had the tank pressure tested? Maybe it got installed with a metal scrap between it and the hull, which has pinholed the tank over time.

That's all I can think of. Good luck.

thanks for the input, I'm thinking it was my cap not being latched properly, we had alot of fall rain this year and my anchor rope was piled around the cap too, I guess I'll drain it one more time and hope that works , if it happens again it's going to the shop! thanks again!

I would sugest you put a water seperating filter on also. They look like a oil filter and just a couple times a year screw a new one on. Will save you a lot of hassles

I moved the tank vent on my boat 9" higher after a similar problem on a windy day on Hood Canal.

I also changed out the gas tank filler cap from a cheap one that kept on cross threading and allowing water to get in the tank that way.

Finally, I added a fuel filter/water separator that has a drain basin with a petcock to remove excess water without changing the whole filter assembly.

These cost about $70 to complete all of the midifications, and I would suggest that you do all three before ripping up the flooring on your boat.
