Have been going down for years. Really better off using one of the charters. You can get them to take you for any kind of fish, don't have to go just for billfish.
If you have your heart set of beach fishing, head back up toward San Jose del Cabo. Also some pretty good web sites for the area, should be able to find more there. Lots of retired in San Jose, must be some fishermen.

Yeah, I went to Ixtapa last year and as a warning you have to be careful to who you go fishing with. The one's that come to you and offer trips usually suck, and nothing worse than a captain that can't speak english... Keith

There's a flyshop in Cabo on the marina, the guy in there can give you some info on beach spots. There's a good beach up by San Jose del Cabo, but I can't remember the name of it. The key for beach fishing is to fish at dawn and dusk, the rest of the time you're probably wasting your time unless it's really calm and you can see the baitfish.

Hola Amigo!
You'll definitely have more action fishing/trolling from a panga boat.
Last April we fished from the beach (El Cardonel, located north of Los Barillos, about 1.5 hours from Cabo) for one or two sessions each day, using everything - bait, jigs, wobblers. Total catch was like a single needlefish. Our sense of it was that we simply couldn't move the lures fast enough. That's why trolling out of a boat is more effective.
As to boats, language needn't be a barrier if you simply learn the names of the fish you want to go after. You're going to a foreign country after all. Learning some spanish or at least carrying a $10 electronic phrase translator will add immensely to your trip.
Do however, be aware that the small boats (pangas) are minimally equipped. No safety, firstaid, or communications. Bring your cell phone.
We're looking forward to our third Baja fishing trip this spring -- have fun!

thanks for the replys. I failed to state that I have a 28 ft Calf. reserved for a few days(kown skipper and crew) but was looking for information for fishing from the beach. I will take some rods and reels , unfortunately as I have q quest to compeletly understand all those umbrella drinks, and also spend lots of time with my kids, I will only venture out a few times. (for those of you that can't understand why I do not fish more at Cabo, I tell you this, I fished for salmon over 75 days this year, and endended up with tendionitits and doctor bills from too maqny fish) so this is more of family/nap by the pool/ lots of great sex/explore new beches type of vacation. )
