I have a Ambassadeur 5000 that's about thirty years old. I dropped it a while back and broke the plastic crank handle off. Abu doesnt carry the part anymore. Does anyone have one of these reels that is around twenty years old. I am trying to see if the parts are the same so that I can order the correct handle. ( Abu carries parts up to twenty years)
Does anyone have a suggestion for a quick fix? Until I fix it, I will be reeling in Ike with one crank handle!

I'd check with Ollie Damon's in Portland. They will likely both know what the part is, and whether the newer part will work. They also may have the older crank lying around.

Most sports stores carry a supply of handles called Gator Grips for replacements. I know Sportco has them in stock.

I also found a guy on the net whom custom builds ABU Ambassadeur reels. Some of them are pretty cool. One sells for 400.00 Also check out the " groovy" multi- colored model.
