As some of you may notice, the Teds Sports Center banner will actually take you to a site...

The Teds Sports Center website was just published this past week and we would love your feedback and would also like to know what you want out of the site.

It is still very young and very bare but we do have big plans for the site. Right now we are focusing on a local river update everyday with hopefully a new picture everyday. We are also going to do our best to keep the New Products page updated and we also offer links to river levels.

Please take a look around and let us know what you think via this forum or an email to our webmaster or myself. But do remember that it is still very new and we are working some bugs out and have large plans for the site.

Teds Sports Center

BTW-I was recently informed that structure of the pictures and such may look very scewed if you are viewing via Netscape. That is going to get fixed...

THANKS!!!!

Coot-
When you click on any link within a post on this BB or for that matter most links now a days, it opens the page in a serparate browser. If you want out of that site you just close the browser as you will still have the page open in the browser that you found the link.

Glad to see Mike and the crew have finally joined the computer age. Ted's has always been a favorite place of mine. The quality and quantity of the stuff you find there is always top notch. cool

We've got both those colors in stock but not many for long. We ordered just a few of each color to see the plug as we were not sure of the quality, the paintjob, appearence etc. etc. of the plugs. We were very impressed and ordered bunches of them. smile

Ryan,
The site looks good. I have some tips I would like to offer:

1. Try to fit the Main page into one screen without the need for scrolliong. Most people will not be viewing this on a 21" monitor at 1600 x 1200, they will most likely be viewing it at 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 on 15" or 17" monitors.

2. Reduce the font size of everything except things you would like to bring attention to (a good example is the new products page).

3. You might want to inform people that some of the links will take you to another site instead of pricing.

4. Put up a fishing tip. If you post a link to a product/service it should take them to what they are looking for, not a "Check back later" message.

Just my $0.02, otherwise a well done site. Since a website is usually an investment it should maximize the possible return...

OK, you asked for it.....

I am using MS Explorer 5.5 with font size set at medium, a 17 inch monitor set at 1024x768.

1. The font size on most of the pages (see opening page) is way too large.
2. There is a "major" scroll factor here. Viewers shouldn't have to scroll to view the content links.
3. The link buttons are huge and spaced far apart. If you make them narrower (?) and closer in spacing you will get rid of some scroll.
4. The images should load alot faster. I noticed that "hats.jpg" on the Terminal Tackle page has a size of 225x299 listed in the code, but the actual size is 480x640 and has a resolution of 150. This makes it 43.8 kb. (Very large) Using Photoshop I changed the image size to 225x300 and 72 dpi and saved at level six jpg and the result is 21.3 kb. The image looks the same and loads twice as fast.
5. Tooltip text would be nice. Example: "Product Lines" has a list of product catagories. I have to click "rods" to see what kinds are carried. If you used tooltip text I could mouse over "rods" and see the products carried with out clicking. Now this will not work with "terminal tackle" as there is alot listed.

I hope I haven't come off too harsh. I think that it is a great start and there is alot of potential.
You will not be able to please everyone, but these tips will produce a site that is much easier to view and navigate.

If you need any help feel free to contact me.

Will Ted's be carrying the "Wiggle-o" plug by Cordell? I want to give it a try on springers this year.

riverswild,
Good catch on the image sizes. I have DSL and do not notice those size differences.

Hey Sparkey...

When clicking on a product link, instead of taking me to that manufacturer's web site, I'd rather see what you on hand and the price.
If I'm looking at your site, I already know what I want but want to know if you have it on hand/in stock and how much it's going to cost.

Just my thoughts...

Kev

What web editor are you using? I have found FrontPage 2002 to be not bad at all. If you have someone around that knows HTML real well, you might want to try Visual Interdev.

Of course if they know HTML really well they can just use notepad.exe. Me? Combination between FrontPage and hand-coding. FrontPage doesn't follow HTML standards with everything that it does, so I have to remove the "webbots" that it throws in to try and keep people using their IIS servers. Very tacky, but FrontPage was free for me so until Macromedia starts giving away Dreamweaver...*sigh*
