when you fish with power pro line do you have to use any special knots? are there any disadvantages to using this line? would you use this only in special situations or all the time?

You use a Palermo Knot. It is easy to tie and works well. Use it mostly for jig fishing because it mends so well and floats. You get immediate action on a pull.

You can use for drift fishing, but don't use it around other people (combat fishing). You will get other people upset if you snag with them. It is very hard to unsnag with others.

I had problems breaking off powerpro at the knot during hooksets. I now also tie the palermo knot have yet to have a knot come undone or break. The paperwork inside the package details 3 or 4 different knots.

Power Pro`s web page has a whole series of knots that they recommend for their lines. They however dont include the Palermo Knot. They make a point of suggesting the use of a softer dacron backing becauseof line slippage on the drum when power pro is wound directly on the reel.

You can also pick up a Tiemaster tool, it's an extra thing to have around, but my buddies are always wanting to borrow it, about $5.

I have always used the triline knot and have never had any problems with it.It's the knot that's just like an improved clinch knot only you run around the swivel twice instead of once.Then just continue on with the improved clinch tie.

i've had some trouble with the palomar and mono but its worked good for braided. mabye its just me .

Same knot I use for attaching my mono mainline to swivel....Double Improved Clinch Knot. Just form a long loop in the line...pass it thru the swivel eye and complete a clinch knot with the doubled line. Strongest knot I know of.

The knot you described was used by all the guides in River Inlets Canada. They call it River Inlets knot up there and it is very strong.

As a Pro Staff rep for Power Pro I can tell you that the only foolproof knot that I am aware of is the knot tied by and with Joe Littles Tie Master as Tila said. I will be representing Power Pro line at the Puyallup Sportsmans show and while there I will be demonstrating how easy it is to use the tool. I will be at the Power Pro display in the Auburn Sports and Marines booth. They will be the only one with the tool on sale at the show that I am aware of. I wear mine on a lanyard around my neck anytime I fish and use the knot for every conncection other than an egg loop. See you in Puyallup.

I recently switched to powerpro. When I bought my first spool I did not notice I had 2lb diameter 10lbtest line untill it was on my reel. The first fish I hooked was a mid-teens fish and after several minutes the fish made a sudden "at my feet" break for it and snapped my improved clinch knot. After that I switched to the palomar knot and its been all good from there. A good ten fish later and not one snapped palomar knot.

Out, You have my steelhead outfit...just be careful on hookset and landing but I think you learned that one! Way to go! Its fun fishing with hair isn't it...email for some more info.

You can read this at www.tie-master.com but I figured I would put it here. In lab tests done at Berkeleys lab on their braided line...fireline the tiemaster knot performed flawlessly. On 14lb line the Palomar knot failed at 16.3lbs. On the same 14lb line the tiemaster knot held at 32.8. One day while fishing Sturgeon I hung up on the bottom. I was using 30# Power Pro with the tiemaster knot. I ended up breaking the 6/0 Gami instead of the line...I am sure that it was much more than 30#s of pull on that line...since I had the boat motoring forward!

I'll add a thumb's up for Joe Little's tiemaster. He's a long longtime guide down on SW Wa rivers and knows his stuff. The tiemaster is a great little gadget to add to your tacklebox if you're fishing a lot of braided lines.

I have run into the problem of superbraids slipping on the drum.It is a reel pain in the butt.All you can do is find a section of river with enough space to walk all the line off the reel and then reel it all back on tight.I always use backing now!
I use my improved clinch Knot and have not had any problems.I am usualy happy when the stuff finaly does break!

just finished an impromptu test in preparation for the Puyallup show. Used my digital scale and 10lb Power Pro. Results: Tiemaster knot...the line broke between 17.11 and 19.02 notice I said the line broke. Double Palomar...knot failed between 7.3 and 11.1. Just an FYI...10lb test has the diameter of 2lb mono.

PowerPro yea thats the stuff the crackers use at Riter.watched two morons break off a bunch of powerpro or some other such sh**,Ihave come across this junk in the river a lot latley.I cant figer out why guys need to use anythin over 10lb for 5lb brats must be a skill leaval or a bass fishing thing

Hi Iticleo: I just installed my first powerpro refill. I laid down 100x of 14lb mon as a base and finished off with 20lb powerpro. It seems to hold well on the drum with that cushion.
I used the Albright with a lock for the mono to braid connection and the Palomar for the tie to the swivel. I`ll still stick with 8lb mono for the leader and go to 6 lb for low clear water.
I love the feel of that powerpro it reminds me of the old silk braid we used to use but improved .
I`m sold on it.
