Can anybody tell me how the Smelt are running in the Cowlitz right now? Are they looking good yet or still pretty thin? Thanks in advance, Jack

I got two limits in less than 15 minutes in front of the Carnival Market Sunday. I'd say it's worth a try.

The smelt are in and thick, I live next to the cowlitz and Saturday I could have filled a 5 gallon bucket with 3 dips, but there was only 3 of us so I could only fill the bucket 3\4 of the way, the same last Wednesday. A little advice stay away from Carnival Market, drive into Lexington and turn into Riverside Park as soon as you turn into the park look to the left and you'll see the dike anywhere along there, last Wednesday they were only getting 1 or 3 smelt per dip at the carnival market I went to Riverside and was dipping 30 to 40 a dip.

Or go across the river and dip near Rocky Point that is an excellent spot. Technically I think each individual is supposed to have their own bucket. The game wardens can be real sticklers down there some times. Good luck. I will be out there tonight maybe I will see you!
