My wife complained that I never got her anything good (I always got her what she said she wanted, so go figure that one out), and she spends a lot of time with our kids running a daycare out of the house so for christmas I got her something cheap, but quite valuable to her.
I sat down at the computer and drafted up 12 certificates. Six of these were for dates that would be fully arranged by me. She just has to give me the certificate a few days before, and her input is allowed. I take care of reservations, childcare, etc. She has already cashed in two.
The other six certificates are for days where she gets to take off with her friends for a day of shopping, or whatever else, and I spend the day playing with the boys (we usually go on some adventure, like pig hunting). This may not seem like much, but we are pretty busy folks, and a day without the resposibility of the kids is an event worthy of celebration for her, cause she spends 5 days a week watching 8 kids. Sure, she deserves it anyway, but she felt guilty about taking off in the past to take some time for herself. The certificates help to relieve that feeling, and she usually thanks me quite generously after one of her outings.
If that doesn't work, try a fishin' rod, steelhead vest, and a license so that she can spend more time with you.
Edit: Before you think I'm really cheap, I also got her a pair of leather pants (size 2) and a jacket to celebrate her 25 pound weight loss. She made it back to the weight she was when we began dating. I am actually quite proud of her.
